What are you after?

Mdecoder will bring up factory specs, production date, etc.

If you are after car history, good luck. POPIA restricts this. I needed history on mine. Had to phone head office, who log a query with BMW SA to contact the previous owner to get permission to release detail (still waiting). i.e. if you want vehicle history from a previous owner - the owner at that time has to provide authorisation to release it.

There's this SA VIN decoder that helped me a lot personally: vindocs.co.za

Even though I have tried multiple VIN checking websites, this one seemed to be the most modern and accurate, and they have pretty decent prices. Saved me from buying crashed or stolen cars with huge odometer rollbacks. It's crazy how much information can be brought up to you just by entering the VIN.

True, but it's better to pay a little fee to find out the truth than to spend more money on repairs than the car is worth.
