Goodbye BMW ,hello Porsche

Still waiting. They did give me a timeline of 4 weeks.
As for sourcing a box from a scrapped 981, like Mr Y said, its an almost impossible task due to the scarcity of these cars.
I'm sorry to hear man. Sometimes these things just happen and there is just no other options that are viable. Hopefully you get your cash back plus some when you sell the car and you can get yourself something else that ticks all the boxes for you. It is sometimes so hard to part with these things, but everything happens for a reason.

Thanks for your kind words.
I'll just have to wait until my car is sorted out, then take it from there. I would hate to give up on my Porsche journey, but sometimes you just have to be rational.

Buy a manual Porsche. Owners seem to rave about these things.

I like the older 911 P-cars (lol) and would never buy a PDK regardless if it's on plan or not.

I hope you get your car back soon! Keep us updated.

You should push for a courtesy car, while you wait.

After a long wait, I finally collected my car today. The bill which included the annual oil service was not inconsiderable. Anyways, glad this saga has come to an end!
Thank you to all my fellow fantastics for all their words of encouragement and advice. For now I'm just going to drive my Porsche and enjoy it.

Yasis. I just read this entire thread, Whiles its a sad story i am glad you got sorted out after exhausting all your options.

Yes our cars can drop bomb shells on us, but its the smile on our faces that we enjoy when drive them that counts.

May you enjoy many safe miles.

First thing I did after collecting my car was go for a nice long drive just to assuage my state of mind after coughing up six figures.
Got home feeling somewhat better ( helped by that driving pleasure that a Porsche can give)
So, is it worth buying a used Porsche? Maybe, just ensure you have a engine and drivetrain warranty

Glad to hear that it worked out.
I assume there is a warranty on the new box for at least 1 year?

Thats what the service advisor told me, all parts have a one year warranty. But you would expect a major part such as a gearbox to have a more generous warranty.

How is the car treating you so far?
Running like clockwork so far. It's coming up for an interim service( did oil service last year along with that other issue). I've replaced the battery ( surprisingly the agents price was cheapest I could find).
I haven't got down to addressing the interior door trim delamination ( looks very noticeable now), as I've been busy moving homes. One or both of the ''frunk" gas struts have gone a bit lazy, so that's another item.
Other than those issues nothing else to report.
I've found using the start/stop function does have a small but noticeable effect on fuel consumption.

My frunk struts also needed replacing - was done under Plan.
The stop start works best on the highway, when it feels like it engages Neutral when cruising in 7th gear for a while.

Im considering selling my Boxster. I've got a very good ,albeit provisional offer, from Webuycars. In two minds , giving up on a special car and regretting it in the future .

Ask Porsche Umhlanga to also provide a value. They do try to beat any offer.

Actually asked them when I did my last service. They didn't seem really interested. Basically telling me that I wont like their offer without even giving me a figure. Although the service is good at Porsche Umhlanga, there's no free lunches with them!
