You maybe need to get an E90 M3 LCi...enjoy the fruits of those 8 cylinders in an M-car...then decide if you want 6cyl twin-turbo afterwards. I would think the F10 M5 will e a good choice or even the M6 because it is bigger (could possibly getaway with the M6 Coupe and then if you still hte the doors, then M6 GC. Understated cars yet offer a ton of car for the money you pay right now.

Seen many F80s recently myself and getting a clean one is not a very easy task. Many have been cosmetically pulled through their arses also...but the M6/M5 seems to have a different market...not so many boy racers buy them and you can get a couple low-mileage and will looked aftered examples.

Lol at this part😅 🤣😂

but true bru, see them with wide gaps on all body parts, diffferent colour body parts...missing badging etc yet still says...no accident damage...jirre!

Then also the amount of wings, stickers and crap...MPerf everything...wrapped for shits and giggles...poorly too.

Helping people search for cars is becoming an extreme sport. The amount of absolutely horrific carbon, stick on paddle shifters, M stripes on grilles, gel stickers masquerading as interior carbon, "alcantara" steering wheel wraps fitted at home, badges that yellow badly, incorrect placement of badges, blacking out of things that have no business being blacked out etc is crazy...

...and what is crazier is that people are willing to still buy cars like this provided the body itself is fine because there are other clean-looking cars that are mechanically disasters.

Another PSA considering how many are being sold as "wrapped to protect the paint": DO NOT BUY A WRAPPED CAR UNLESS THE DEALER HAS IT UNWRAPPED AT THEIR COST! IF it was to protect the paint, the owner would have detailed it and done PPF (Which reminds me I need to get on this for my M5 LOL)

One of my mates bought an E92 and had to have carbon splitters, skirts, mirrors and rear spoiler removed because they looked like trash - fitment wise and they had yellowed and chipped. Fitment wise alone, you wouldn't be able to pay me enough money to fit that to my car... Car was being sold with them as 'extras' and that they just needed to be clear coated again... as though that would fix the garbage fitment and weave imperfections. If a cosmetic part is not PERFECT (and I mean absolutely flawless) why fit it? The whole purpose is for looks!

I am struggling to find a word so bear with me here.

The amount of "snootyness"(LOL) in this post is quite annoying actually. In a perfect world this post would make sense but, in todays world, a lot of people that buy these cars are after the status of it all and are not true "car guys" hence fitment and and and doesn't matter to them. On the other side, there are people who buy these cars and either can't afford or can't justify spending R20k on a set of splitters. I think it's unfair to judge them, without knowing, as you have done. I know I have been guilty of this in the past, yet it remained my vehicle and my perception of what I had fitted was ok to me in my head, someone can't come and tell me that I am wrong for following XY or Z path as this is a game of taste and everyone's will differ, it is important to remember this fact and respect everyone equally. If you can afford to blow R100k on cosmetics on a car, all the power to you(I, personally, find it a waste) and enjoy it as you choose.

Thanks Ash...the E90 M has gotten a number of votes here now as such I promise to give it a try. :)

While servicing my car on Sat - I looked at an M235i GC and the new M135i. Didn't have time to drive them but I set both drivers seats to suit me and then climbed in to the rear behind the driver. I could not fit in the M235i GC. I could however fit in to the M135i behind the driver. For me that pretty much eliminates the M235i GC off the list.

The interior of the new cars really are next level nice. The M135i has the HK sound system. I tested it with some radio tunes...and no real difference to my Hi-Fi system in the F30. Perhaps I need to test it via bluetooth rather. Another things - I don't think the M135i is a weekend type of car - not something I think I'd wana keep in the garage. So if that was something I went for...I battle to see the need to keep the F30 320d and I am not really keen on getting rid of it at all. Plus I've not driven the M135i.

Cars still to look at:

E90/92 M3 (added as per advice)
F80 M3
F82 M4 (added as per advice)
M140i
M135i (new to the list) - interior is a yes. Drive to be confirmed.
M240i (added as per advice)

The idea of a coupe has grown on me a little... And so has the idea of at least entertaining the idea of a Porsche...never thought I would think that. I am not a fan of the Boxster. The Cayman GTS and 911 Carrera S falls in a similar price range as an M3/4. I just don't have any real knowledge of the Porsche stable.

The new Z4 M40i has had my attention since it came out...looked at one on Sat as well...only problem is its a hard 2 seater. But man I like the lines.

You don’t have to like what I say, the same way I don’t have to adjust my standards to make you feel better.
You're right, I don't have to like it and believe me I don't need your standards to make me feel better, the pond is bigger than you think.

All I stated was to have a little understanding and not be so critical of those that don't "meet your standards".

It seems that the criteria you mention at the start, and then with your last post, a bigger M car would be better. Put the F10 M5 on your list to view as well, and if budget allows it, the F90.

They are super powerfull cars, and super versatile, that you can take to a wedding, drop the kids of at school, or even a race day. They have the most creature comforts and extremely comfortable.

Going on a trip with buddies with an M5, would be way more enjoyable than an M3. More power, bigger space for suitcases, self closing doors, 360 cameras, full infotainment etc. Always look for a model wich was specced correctly from the factory.

Last thing to consider as well. With an M5 you will technically never need to modify anything (since you don't want to), the power is more than enough. Cosmetic you could do small tastefull changes.

Note: on the M5 everything is changeable from inside, including suspension stiffness, steering feel, pedal sensitivity etc.

I actually just forgot to put the F10 M5 on the list - you are right.

I can though see this is also becoming a decision of will the new car be a weekend car (E90/92 M3, F80 M3/4, M240i, Porsche) and I keep the 320d OR become a replace the 320d car and be a new daily (M140i, M135i, F10 M5). Guys I know everyone is not going to agree with how I categorize the cars between weekend vs daily car - but please just bare with me and how I see things - I am taking heed of the advice as you can see how I've added cars from your suggestions.

Perhaps to clarify that on how I look at it:

E90/92 M3 - this would not be a car I would want to daily mostly based on age and running costs I would think. Remember this car was never on my list and I've not done much research on this one. And a door car simply cannot be a daily for me.
F80/82 M3/4 - for me personally, just too much of a nice car for me to drive everyday - and if it turns out to be an M4 the 2 doors stops is from being a daily for me period.
M140i - as per the feedback here and some consideration I think this can easily be a daily.
M135i - after looking at it this weekend I think it falls in the same place as the M140i - can easily be a daily and not a car I would want to keep in the garage.
M240i - 2 doors = weekend car.
F10 M5 - I am not so sold on this one - although I can see how really nice the interior is - will try.

I am sure you can see how my initial brief is evolving - but I think that is the point of this thread.

Keep the 320d and a Porsche for the weekend bud. Glad you decided to include Porsche now. 997 or newer Carrera S/4S would be perfect and try for a manual!

Had a look on Autotrader - the Boxter S, 911 Carrera S and Cayman S falls sorta in to the price cat I am looking at. The interiors look a bit not so nice and of course on the Carreras the cars are 2009 and older so the interior does show. But I will investigate.

I've never owned a porsche, but I'm pretty sure you don't buy them for their interiors.
