New ix models

Out of pure curiosity I test drove the new iX40 and iX50 models yesterday. Bearing in mind this is the first time I've ever driven an EV. Myself and my significant other have been looking at a new SUV and she's very keen on the new Volvo XC60, naturally I'd prefer we stick to ze Germans.

To put it lightly I am incredibly confused, either EV's are absolutely genius or the worst thing to happen to the automotive industry since the Fiat Multipla.

The driving experience is unlike anything I've experienced and so far removed from what I've come to enjoy about driving. On the other hand it's incredibly comfortable and quite ethereal to be honest. The acceleration of the 50 is insane from a pull off and genuinely took me by surprise a few times.

I really love the feel of the drive but on the other hand it's a rather annoying experience in that there is absolutely 0 drama.

As far as a functional driving tool goes you cannot beat the arguments for an EV (which i very much love by the way), but in terms of enjoyment and driving experience it's as bland as it can get.

Would be keen to hear your experiences and thoughts on EV's in general and the iX models in particular.

I have never driven an EV but was fortunate enough to be picked up in Tesla model S when I was overseas. The experience for me was fantastic. I loved that instant torque even from the backseat. The drive was actually quite an experience. I do think perhaps I may re think this if I were behind the wheel but from that experience alone, I honestly loved it.

Yeah i would love to drive the model S. Maybe a low, sportier sedan (as opposed to an SUV) would make instant torque feel more usable and exciting

I get you, I drove an i3 a while back and it can be quite unnerving. I think EV makes for the perfect daily, if you live really close to work and have a boring commute(or if you're stuck in traffic 90% of the time), but other than those 2 scenarios, no thanks.

The drama comes in the form of know you can beat many boy racers off the line at the robots lol. The instant torque gets addictive an you get very used to the quiet. When Audi gave me a S3 Sportback loaner a few month back I was surprised at how annoyed I got with the noises from the engine, exhaust etc. And this coming from a long-time BMW V8 driver. EVs are certainly not for everyone but In my experience once you make the switch you never look back.
