technical F10 headlight leak

Hey guys,

My dad's F10 headlight has a terrible water leak and it seems to have fried some of the electronics.

The main headlight bulb and high beams work fine but the following are stuffed:

Turn indicator
Side/daytime lights
Headlight vertical aim control failure
Heavy visible water droplets inside

I'm guessing I have to replace the whole headlight. Agent wants 23k fitted.

Anyone have any other ideas before I'm forced to fork it out? Car is out of warranty.

Hi bud, not sure where you located but check with BMW used spare places like MD House or Dezigna Rides. Then get your local mechanic or workshop that you use to fit it for you.

Also check with Deago at BMW Midrand for your price after a fanatics discount.

I think 23k is ridiculous for supply and fitment of one headlight.

The light is complex and comes as one unit - the modules require coding and alignment IIRC as well if they are new (you can get away without this if you are reusing your old ones). Your best bet is one of the spares places and then either getting those modules coded if yours are fried, or swapping your units across. I remember seeing them about a year or so back for around 8000 per side loose and 15K for a pair (I might be wrong)

Thanks guys. The quote I got was for the headlight unit. They were going to re-use the old control module. I do have an ex bmw workshop mgr who can help out with fitment.

I checked they do have, are these used/genuine or aftermarket. If aftermarket are they good or no? Anyone with experience?

They part damaged BMWs so mostly OEM. I’m going to get some LCI headlights soon.

Used OEM pre LCI lights may be over 10 years old now. The rubber, plastic and sealants on even a set in good condition might be “worse” than an aftermarket set of housings. The aftermarket housings are not bad looking but I never used them myself. They do not have any electronics. If you’re getting the failures you might find OEM is still the way to go.
