I need to investigate this a bit more.
But the plan was to lighten the existing flywheel if it is not a dual mass unit.
The clutch will be determined soon.
Cool, My plan is to go with the m20 single mass conversion or get one of these setups:

M20 is not bolt on.... you will need an e30 starter, shorter bolts and so on. Either you can find all this used at a steal (Which i wont do) or you buy new which will cost a penny. Thats why im looking at a plug and play aftermarket LTW flywheel

It was a dirty weekend!
Cleaned 26 years of mud & half of Limpopo off the bottom of the car & engine bay.
Then put a couple of coats of white stone chip in the wheel wells.

Going to do a few more coats so the finish is good. I am doing this now because when the car goes for paint, they wont be able to paint in the wheel wells because the new suspension bits will be in.

Making progress....

well done man looks really clean, It's probably too late to ask but I left a comment on one of your videos on Youtube asking if you still have all the trim and carpet you took out of the boot. looking for all the bits as I'm building a back to OEM restomod.

Howzit Nino

I did reply, not sure if it has come through.

But the short answer is no, sorry bud. I donated & gave away alot of the original stuff.
I still have the side windows, rear window which I will need to make the Poly Carb windows. Also have quite a few bits & bobs but not much else.

Sorry bud

So it looks like this is the route I am going to go.
Anyone know of a flywheel for sale?

Please document the steps you take with it. Ill maybe hold out on importing an aftermarket kit and getting m20 locally.
Also just read up on the clutter you get when going single mass but i doubt it will be an issue for you since its for track. I daily mine haha

Ok, Goldwagen say that the flywheel is no longer available.
I suspect you are going to sacrifice some NVH. Chatter on pull away should be normal unless the driver rides the clutch & burns it.

Hi JSM

well done on the build, I can see all lot of time, effort and enjoyment in the build. To be honest would have been cheaper to have bought my old race car which is for sale for R150k. Haha
It’s also an E36 but with a 330i motor!

regarding your diff most of the guys are running 3:91 or 4:1 LS Diffs, Chris Famelaris is the right person to speak to when it comes to Diffs

When you ready speak to me I’m the Chairman of the BMW ///M Performance Parts Race Series. We have a proper calendar set for this year including 3 rounds at Zwartkops, 2 at Red Star, 2 at Phakisa and 3 at Kyalami, (Kyalami 9Hr support race now in Feb and in Dec plus the M Fest)

That sounds fantastic, thank you.
WRT your old car, life happens I guess but thats ok, I shall push on.

Thank your for the reference, I did chat to Chris. He is going to sort the diff out for me.
We cant find an LS for the car unless I go for something new which is not in my build budget.

So to get the car operational, I am just going to use a locked up diff for now. Chris is going to sort that for me.
So yes, as soon as the car is up & running, I will contact you to enter.

Thanks

So you will run a support race for the 9hr at Kyalami... What is the date for Dec? Have you guys ever considered to do a road trip down to the coast? Between PE & EL we have about 13 or so E36's running in modified saloons. I've always wanted to do a trip to go and race other tracks but the stars has never aligned. This year I'm making a plan...
