Hi guys,

My E30 325i aircon system is not blowing cold air. I've recon the pump but it does not blow cold air even when we regassed it up. Could it be that the dryer needs to be replaced? and/or also the expansion valve? Are there guys out there that can assist without breaking the bank?

Yes replace the dryer and expansion valve, I always replace those on a e30 when there’s a ac issue especially with the age of them.

Thanks do you replace it yourself and where do you buy the parts?

Just off topic, I have heard that aircon gas that's needed in an E30 is no more available
I was on the verge of taking my pump off due to ac gas not available

Didn't hear of that only that you have to retrofit a few nozzles to accept the new gas.

I always do them my self I have been professionally doing this since 92. The dryer is easy and the expansion valve you will need to remove the entire center console and glove box. Not that hard, when you are removing it you will need to hold the expansion valve so it doesn’t move if you don’t you will damage the evap core. Also replace the O rings on the lines you remove.
The formula for retrofit 134a on a r12 is you look at how much refrigerant it takes, should be a sticker underneath the hood depending on the year the amount is different, take that number and remove 20% of the weight it says on the sticker and that’s your amount of 134a it holds, and you will need the 134a adapters which are at all parts stores. I have been doing Conversions since the mid 90s. On where to get the parts hopefully someone will chime in with an answer because I get all my parts from a wholesale distributor that’s not available to the general public

You need the expansion valve, most I have taken out have been clogged with the desiccant that’s in the dryer, it looks like styrofoam has been in there.
