Are there any reliable mechs in KZN who specializes in Vanos repairs?

I would suggest you give Vee from Old Dutch Racing (ODR) or Claude from German Spec a call and check if either of them can assist you.

Have since used both of these service providers for different work on the cars, given the BMWorkshop closing its doors earlier this year. Had great experiences at both places.
