Howzit guys,

First and foremost, happy to be here. Former Astra H OPC owner looking to move house.

Secondly, as the title says, i've finally decided to go with an E30 as my 2021 project car. Looking at a cabriolet donor body as cheap (and i mean cheap!) as possible since it will be a full rebuild. Hopefully have the basics (windows, roof in 'decent/salvagable' condition etc).

For the time being also hoping to get a decent 220i or 220d as a daily as well. Fingers crossed i can do both. Will see as I go along.

Lastly, i solemly swear to use the search function first before repeating the same 100th question that's been answered over and over again :smilebounce:

yeah welcome Looks like u Did some research.

That e30 is not going to be cheap so spend more moola upfront and get a decent one first remember these cars have been very badly abused in SA, so good luck finding a clean specimen

Welcome man.. almost 90% of the forum will vouch for the 220d, and for good reason at that..

Much appreciated.

Maybe consider a F30 320d. A lot easier to come by and should be a touch cheaper.

Definitely! It was actually my first choice. The 220d would be a nice to have but the F30 is pretty much perfect.

Welcome and enjoy. Look forward to the build thread. I can recommend an F30 320d all day long.

Seeing that i finally took delivery of my car about 3 months ago, i felt that it was only best to update the thread. So, no need to stand on ceremony. I took delivery of....

F30 320i M-Sport

Car was genuinely as neat as a nun's wardrobe! Zero complaints whatsoever.

Was lookin for a practical, reliable car that was within my budget as i had to do some big boy duties and had to put down a deposit for a property. The spec and condition ticked all the boxes and the car should keep me going for a long time until it is time to move up in the M family.

Unfortunately, despite being a millennial, I'm still struggling to figure out how to upload pics on my posts. Any advice on that is welcome(y)

Luckily i'm able to recycle a previous post here seeing that i bought the car from an esteemed forum member in good standing. Many thanks to @VinceM. He kept the car for me for +- 4 months while my house of cards was falling in place and i finally had the finances sorted. As a lawyer it's a general rule that business gets done on paper and not on a handshake but Vince was genuinely the exception to this rule. 🤝

Details of the car:

Once i figure out how to upload pics i'll start a new thread with some of the exterior and interior mods i have planned for the car.

But as a teaser, I can say i got my first beemer driver 'welcome to jozi' moment with the car barely two weeks old. Went to Melville to pick up my sister and parked for what must have been 10 minutes max. Came back to find my bonnet badge and all 4 wheel caps GONE!!! As usual, car guard saw nothing. But he still had the minerals to ask me for money as i was leaving🤬Let's just say i did a mental google search on the best place to inflict the most pain on a person without leaving a trace. Then i just drove off...

Will post pics and everything on the new thread once i figure my way around the pics issue.🤟

Very glad the car went to a good home.
So sorry Jay on the mishap.
Wishing you many happy miles.

Best way to upload pics without hassles is TapaTalk app on cellphone. Uploading is similar to using WhatsApp.

Sorry to hear that...I generally avoid Melville, the crime there has become ridiculous the last few years.

Congrats on the new wheels :)

Definitely
Unlucky , melville is known for the dumb petty crimes

Definitely. I've always known this and for some reason i didn't think its deteriorated to that extent. Anyway i have ordered the replacements from ABM. I figured if i look for gumtree/olx alternatives i'll just adding to the petty thug ecosystem so i'd rather go OEM.

Lesson learnt and schoolfees paid. Trust it will not be happenin again any time soon.
