technical EGR cooler leaking internally

Hello everyone, I need some advise. My 2011 X3 F25 Xdrive 2.0 Turbo diesel has a problem with it's EGR ( Exaust Gas Recirculation ) cooler. My Questions are, can you remove the faulty EGR and drive the car without it? What is the function of the EGR other than lowering the emissions? Or should I just replace it?

You can remove it. I removed it on my 320d. You just need a good EGR delete kit (blanking plates). I suggest getting one from @Danny2 as they're imported kits.

You would need to get the EGR turned off with software first before removing it. Others can chime in to confirm. Plenty decent tuners around to help with this - Xcede, RK Motion etc.

Hi. You cannot just remove it without doing software. It will throw a CEL.

Best to do a downpipe and remove EGR and blank it. Also do the software after. It will transform the vehicle.

BMW had a campaign to check EGR cooler leak. You can check on BMW website if your car is part of the campaign.

I suspect this might be part of the current “technical campaign “
