Hi All,

I found this website that sells E46 Brake Discs, Pads and Sensors. Does anyone know whether these would fit on my E36 328i? I have read on the forum that these are the ideal brake upgrades. I am using the car for track days and gymkhanas.

I’m also looking into this modification. From what I’ve read here’s the parts needed to for the conversion:
1. 330i front callipers
2. 330i calliper brackets
3. 330i brake disc dust cover
I’m not sure but I think the brakes might be the same on the 330d and 330i.
Best place to get these parts is off a 330Ci or 330i/d that’s being stripped

Yeah thats what I heard too. But I've looked at this website and if you look at the last picture, those are the exact models that these discs and pads are for. Thought I could source the other stuff second hand.

Give Claudia @ Vari Racing a call, she sorted me out with J hooked and heat treated discs and yellow stuff pads for M3 calipers, came to around R13k for all 4 corners and these things hold:ninja:

best bet go to facebook market place type in 330i stripping and there will be a few ppl that come

another upgrade ppl do is the vented rear brake disks by using parts from the e46 325i you will need the caaliper, rotors and pads

Very few of the E36 non M's came with these as most of them had solid rotors and not vented ones like the later models

Thanks! This is what I’ve been doing. Found two options but not the greatest condition. Will keep looking.

I have been running E46 330i FR with stock E36 rear and it works. You don't need vented rears as it tends to lock up the rears under hard application. Those with bias in their cars run almost all to the front. The 330i calipers is straight bolt on no brackets or anything required. If you go that route just get new discs and get an engineering shop to slot them for venting. If you want to spend money go for EBC or Endless for cool points, but we have run a few different 'normal' brands with good results.

Do not fit Ferrodo. I used a set of Eco Platinum's in one race over 8 laps. If you can find Textar try them or Brembo. My 1st choice would be FEBI. I have run them on my car for a few 3/4 hr endurance races and they lasted.

Thanks for the response! I have lots of questions:
1. What is FR?
2. Where do you get the discs from besides the Agents?
3. I will google all the other brand names mentioned.

My mechanic does slotting and venting, so can get that sorted when I find the discs.

Front...

I have Deselra on my car that I bought from Grandmark. Works 100% without any issues. When he slots them check the minimum disc thickness and get him to machine to this. So if it's 22mm new and minimum is 21mm machine a 0.5mm slot depth on either side. The venting will disappear as you reduce disc life and it will be an indication to replace as well.

I run E46 330i brakes at the front of my 328i track car and they work fine. I use Ferodo DS2500 pads recommended by some of the guys running in bridgestone cup - also no issues and quite a bit better than EBC Yellow Shit.

The discs I sourced front and rear from Vari - they use Goldwagen parts then slot and heat treat them. That is okay for these cars.

“EBC Yellow Shit” LOL!!!!!!
They’ve really stepped up their game to be honest, they’ve recently changed their formula for less squeak and easier wear-in. There’s also different colour EBC products for different applications.

Back to the calliper conversion topic
When replacing the stock brake lines with braided brake lines, how much of braided line is needed ? 2m ? 1m?

🤷‍♂️

Still running stock rubber lines on mine. And like I said we do endurance races with mine with no issues. Actually stopped doing sprint races and keeping it for longer races only. But would also like to know if we do go for this at some point as an upgrade. I think for where most of us "compete" you can get quite far with simple additions to the cars.

We are now talking about setting up a BMW only series in EC. Between PE & EL there's probably 10 or so E36's with varying mod's so there's load of guys to race from extremely fast to almost stock.

Powerbrake wasn’t any better.
Brembo and Alcon kits are around the R40k mark
