Hi guys I'm stuck between a hard rock. I'm not sure if I must rebuild my motor or get another one, did anyone  experience this situation? N54 motor seized.

You need to attach pictures and state what is wrong.

Call around to places Japan auto to get a quote on another engine.

In the meantime, I would make a list of items damaged on the current engine, and if I were to rebuild it, I would go forge everything.

N54 motor is actually a solid motor, how did you end up seizing it?

Thank you firi for replying I didn't strip the motor yet just took out the oil filter found copper pieces in there and tryed to turn the crank. Was driving in traffic and heard a rattle and then the car died. Didn't want to start or swing.

There's a few motors for sale in jhb but I can't find in Cape Town that gives warranty on them.i

Hi Yaaz,

Im sorry to hear about your car, did you happen to notice if your aux belt is still attached and fine? it sounds like your belt snapped and got sucked into the motor via the crank seal.

PM N54 Medic, he is currently rebuilding an N54 aswell, he can guide you with what he has done thus far.

i would open it up first to see what grenaded before making the descision to replace...

However out the outset i would go with another motor vs rebuilding this one as it can become a costly exercise.

Thanx for the reply guys my belt is still on,i was thinking of buying a new motor but in Cape Town I can't find one with warranty because to find a second hand crank is hard.

I am no mechanic but start at the beginning. First see what is wrong before making any decisions. You're putting the cart before the horse now. Until you know why even spend time trying to find a replacement motor. For all you know (unless you do) the cost of repair could be half of a replacement motor.

Regrettably CPT shops do not give warranty on Performance engines.
Most you will get is start up guarantee and thats it

Sorry to hear about your motor

lots of good advice has been given, I have just forged my motor and it has tons of challenges.

It is as expensive as hell, don't be penny wise pound foolish if you rebuild.

1) what do you want to do with the car? are you want hi HP?

2) what was done to the car? stock? Tuned?

3) use a proper engine builder and engineering shop, I have seen a few horror stories on these motors

4) there are tons of parts needed to rebuild, do your homework because a lot of parts will need to be imported from overseas and that means you will end up dealing with people you don't know and have no recourse if parts are wrong

5) don't re-bore sleeve it and get it done properly

6) if you are going hi psi get correct head bolts (This is a super weak link on these cars)

if you just want stock find a low mileage motor and get some one to check it for you

Hi Dax want to keep it 400 to 500kw I got stage 2 turbos. What do you suggest and who to rebuild my motor. I don't mind buying a second hand motor just I can't find one that's under warranty and to pay 40k and after a week it gives me problems. I can't afford it

So now the story changes with some meat on it.

you have a tuned car and your motor gave way and your on a budget,

1. dont expect a used engine to come with a warranty especially if your going to slap a bunch of mods on it and run it for the first 1000km...
2. open your current motor up and see whats wrong first, you may depending on what is wrong get away with a few parts replacement thus saving swopping out the entire motor.
3. these n54s date back to 2006, any term of the word warranty is long gone 17 years later.
4. do you even know why your current motor let go? was it age? tuning? maintenance or a freak incident?

you have come to a forum to ask for help, any good advice is only as good as the information provided as a back story.

good luck!

Sorry to read about your car.

Have you tried LDR Engines? I am in the process of sourcing another engine for an i10 and I noticed they have a branch in Cape Town as well. The nice thing about them is that they offer a 3 month warranty on their engines (6 months if they install it). For this reason they are my first choice and I'm willing to wait for their next shipment to come in.

Kish I bought the car for Sunday drives. I purchased it in June did all the maintenance on it first before driving it. Major service injectors water pump and then it started smoking I was forced to do the turbos well I was looking for turbos online went abit overboard and bought the burger motor sport kit to help cool the car down.im not looking for a new motor atleast something below 110000km the motors are going for 40 to 50k.

Yes the previous owner didn't look after the car they did a awesome job by covering up stuff

Jake's thank you will give them a call now

Hi Bro

My N54 was written off in November, it was taken to SMD Marlboro. The engine is in great condition. If they still have the car perhaps all them up

Hi

If you want 400 to 500Kw no use in buying a used motor

tear the motor down and as @Kish2604 says find out why the motor let go, if a N54 motor is done properly it is going to cost a packet but they can be rewarding cars once dialed in.

Any recommendations for reputable engineering shops in CPT?

It depends what you want done, and what the end goal is.

I would would recommend finding a good engine builder and ask who he works with.
