THE BOLD NEW FACE OF SPACE
Seen here in xDrive M60i guise, the new X7 represents another bold innovation in style and presence for the brand. A combo of exclusivity, exceptional dynamics, luxurious space (as the caption suggests) and versatility.
We can look forward to the following upgrades over the pre-LCI:
The new-look, encompassing all aspects of BMW's current design language.
New generation iDrive OS with BMW's brand new curved display, elevating the cockpit.
New M Sport & M Sport PRO styling packages, including (for the first time ever) optional 23" alloys.
The new X7 is set to launch by August 2022 in the following variants:
BMW X7 xDrive 40d (B57) - 3.0 I6 Twin-Power Diesel, 259kW/352hp & 720Nm/531ft-lb
BMW X7 xDrive 40i (B58) - 3.0 I6 Twin-Power Petrol, 280kW/380hp & 540Nm/398ft-lb
BMW X7 xDrive M60i (N63) - 4.4lt V8 Twin-Power Petrol, 390kW/530hp & 750Nm/553ft-lb
Each variant also receives BMW's new 48V mild-hybrid system, via a crankshaft-mounted starter-generator integrated into the front section of the standard eight-speed automatic gearbox.
What are your thoughts on this new "behemoth" in BMW's SUV line-up?
Some of the product highlights on the xDrive 40 variants:
BMW recently revealed a sample sketch of the front end on the upcoming (U11) iX1 at their annual conference.
Dubbed "The first fully electric BMW iX1" it combines the innovation of BMW i with the flexibility of a BMW X model. Equipped with the innovative fifth-generation eDrive technology, the spacious yet compact BMW iX1 impresses with dynamic performance values and a high range. Thanks to its excitingly sporty exterior, it delivers a visual statement of self-assured presence. And in combination with state-of-the-art digital technology in the interior, the new BMW iX1 offers an agile driving experience for all those who seek adventure in their everyday life.
Details aren't available right now but we believe it will slot into the space of the i3 - basically the entry level EV in the BMW stable. BMWBlog.com previously reported the all-electric iX1 will be offered with a 135kW single-motor variant, and a more powerful dual-motor all-wheel drive setup with a total system output of around 185kW. But, as with all BMWs, country specific features are to be confirmed closer to launch.
We're not quite sure if/when this model offering will make it to the S.A market yet. BMW SA has since created a landing page on their site for the vehicle, which will be updated, as and when further info is made available.
Whilst the first world has headed more and more toward the EV market in the past 10 years, there were doubts that S.A will even be able to do this in the next 10 - with load-shedding becoming common practice.
But it's not all doom and gloom.... There seems to be a glimmer of hope for our market (atleast) with the announcement of possible Renewable Energy, to close the energy supply shortfall we've been facing - even as soon as the next 2 years.
This in-turn could possibly provide a cheaper, and more stable stream of electricity. To give the S.A public the confidence needed to go out and purchase more of these EV's.
Whether this will all come to fruition, for now is unknown. Atleast the future of our favourite car maker's EV stable looks to be quite bright💡...

The 8: Artificial Intelligence turns your car into digital artwork
With the tech world progressing far beyond our wildest dreams and the metaverse becoming the new universe, art has always had a place in this ever-changing sphere.
But... what of the motoring world? Our favourite motoring brand has undertaken an AI exploration to combine nearly a millennium of Art, with 21st century Tech. Though, it is a well-known fact that BMW is no stranger to creating this link...
Since the 70's, BMW's Art Cars have been rolling examples of how Art and Technology can be combined, in the most aesthetically pleasing ways. With the Art Car collection exhibiting works by some of the most world renowned artists. It is only fitting then that BMW take this leap.
And what more worthy than the beautiful BMW 8 series Gran Coupé, a piece of rolling art in its own right, to be the canvas for this 21st century "masterpiece".
So how does AI come in?
Ever imagined what an algorithm fed with 50,000 images of artworks spanning 900 years of art history and contemporary art can create? Turning this into stunning reality while building on BMW’s history of combining innovation and art, we’ll tap artificial intelligence, creative technologist Nathan Shipley and collector and founder of ArtDrunk Gary Yeh to create “The Ultimate AI Masterpiece,” which will be projected onto the most sophisticated canvas—the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé.
Can an algorithm rethink art? The American creative technologist has been exploring the creative-design potential of artificial-intelligence technology for some time now. “AI is an emerging medium of creative expression. It’s a fascinating space where art meets algorithm and becomes an incredible tool for artists,” said Shipley.
If you'd like to see the final masterpiece in motion, the link can be found here: The 8: AI Digital Experience
Perhaps... you may just be able to drive an Art Car of your own in the metaverse real soon😉

VENUES & DATES
Johannesburg
Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 October 2021, BMW xDrive Park
Cape Town
Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 November 2021, Silo District
Durban
Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 November 2021, Suncoast Casino Globe
The day started off quick & easy (considering Howler was used for ticketing, I think most are familiar with this nightmare but) the check in process was seamless and in no time, we were in!
Complimentary masks and bottled water were given to each entrant - nice touch BMW SA, since our day was a scorcher.
As soon as we walked in, we knew we were at a BMW event, right at home🤣
We were treated to:
3 different Driving Experiences:
M Drift
Utilizing the F8x M3 & M4, we got to experience the art of controlling your BMW when things go "sideways" 😜 drifting & spinning was the order of the day. As BMW M's are infamous for... 👨🦯👨🦯
M Drag
By far my favourite of the day, utilizing the G8x M3 & M4 C's, F87 M2C's & G0x X3M & X4M C's. We got to experience the brute force these Twin Turbo 6's had to offer, in a safe environment.
Also the reason for it being my favourite was, we got to see the new G8x in action! For RWD cars, they are not to be messed with at the lights😐 BMW were able to harness the power and deliver it exceptionally well on this new platform. Cant wait to see what the XDrive versions will do!🤫
M Gymkhana
This was by far the least favourite and a bit of a fail, utilizing the F4x M135i & M235i and G30 M550i. We got to experience the sheer agility and handling of these BMWs. But (for the JHB leg anyway) this wasn't so. The cars were understeering badly in the slaloms, this (IMO) was partly due to the area chosen and the surface they were on. It was not tarred and very slippery, almost like an underground parking lot. I think a better area / surface should be chosen for this in future🙏
(All experiences were piloted by a BMW Professional)
2 Retail / After Sales displays:
BMW M Town Store
BMW clothing and accessories, as well as event only merchandise was on sale
BMW M Performance Parts
A display of all the parts you'll need when purchasing your BMW😜
1 Media Activation:
M Town Rush
We witnessed a reel of BMW Passenger, Sport & Race evolution over the years, culminating in the launch of the all new G83 M4 Convertible and F90 M5 CS, on S.A soil.
This was a really well thought out, enjoyable and for the BMW enthusiast, appreciative glimpse into how far the company has come and their many successes over the years. (Not quite sure if the media is available, but I will ask. And post the link in this thread if received)
And last but not least, various Product Displays from each series in the BMW Line up. Enabling us to get a proper look and feel for many of these cars, where you might not have had the chance to before.
All in all, this was an awesome family day out for the BMW enthusiast. Due to COVID restrictions, tickets were capped for each day, which meant a sold out audience. This was welcomed, as no area was crowded and we took full advantage of all this event had to offer!
So kudos to you BMW SA!!! And Thank You for having us!
