IBS 2006 BMW E90 320d msport

Sup guys

Hope all is well.

Pls assist .

How would I know if my car has an IBS as I have been having some headaches and from what I read it's better to disconnect it completely than to keep having it on .

My dash lights comes on just after about 10mins of driving and I have already checked battery and alternator charge , (this started yesterday during the freak storm . Wife was locked in car whilst the wiper stopped working , radio went off , dash lights illuminated , engine had lumpy idle ..she switched off immediately) ....I don't know how to check the regulator but I would assume that if the regulator is popped it won't hold charge .....so now the direction I am headed in is the IBS , and no not irritable bowel syndrome....heheheh.

I am from Durban .

This mrng started car fine but after about 10mins ...it started its nonsense .

Please assist.

Your car does not have an IBS

The alternator could be spiking intermittently.

Get the codes read then monitor the voltage while driving (there is a way to access the voltage reading via the hidden obc menu).

I don't have any of your other symptoms but I do get those lights if I don't turn the car off with my wheels straight. Something to do with the steering angle sensor on mine. Full lock left and right and a stop/start sorts mine out. Just my two cents I know it doesn't explain your other symptoms.

But usually code reading is the first step in getting some clarity as to what direction the problem is. As others have mentioned. Checking the voltage through the OBC is also a good idea:thumbs:

Sup gents

Thanks for all the comments ...

Been to BMW Supertech and believe it or not , car didn't show any errors on their systems .

Then the tech started tracing for water damages ...none existing, especially at the computer box side and the ABS pump side ...nothing .

Then he check battery and alternator ...all is fine .

Then he sits in the driver seat and starts fiddling around with the cluster etc etc ...i saw some fancy things happen to the cluster , he reports all is well .

This is much too confusing and yes you guys are quite right...this car doesn't have an IBS .

I will not rule out the steering and will try to monitor this .

The tech from Supertech tells me that when and if this problem comes up again , then I should bring it in immediately. My issue is by the time I get to him , it's probably gone , weird. How does one record this...

Been driving her around the entire day today and she is going extremely well .

Let's hope it was just some water here and there and that it has evaporated .

I want to actually just put in anew regulator and see from there , is this a good idea or not?

IMO, this is the case...

But then, it must not happen again on the next downpour.

Don'f fix something thats not broke...
Regulator will cause a fault code to be logged and it would have repeated the fault again today.
