technical Z4 e85 bluetooth retrofit

I'm currently using a parrot bluetooth system in 2004 e85 Z4. It's works most of the time, but is there anything better out there?

It just randomly disconnects from time to time and the change track button sometimes gets stuck on fast forward. While I'm listening to a YouTube video or something and someone calls, I can't get the sound playing again without disconnecting and reconnecting bluetooth. It's just really irritating. I'm not sure exactly how it was fitted. It also has some alternator whine which I need to resolve.

Ideally, I'd like something with bluetooth 5.1, with good sound quality, that is a high-quality item. i.e. not some cheap alixpress dongle or something.

This is a fairly old-fashioned sounds system with a business cd radio with CD shuttle and a DSP amplifier. There is a possibility of adding a 3.5mm stereo jack, which I did a while back but it was cumbersome and sounded pretty terrible.

Otherwise, perhaps a complete upgrade of the sound system is best. Just a hectic mission and expense, its a 10 speaker system. Has anyone done anything like this before?

The bluebus is really good. Expensive, but l reliable, high quality and OEM style integration.

I got a bluebus recently for my e39 and found it wasn’t quite compatible with my stereo. I also have business radio with cd changer, but apparently it’s very basic, and the text integration, like showing track names etc, doesn’t work. I am able to pair a device and play music, but the functionality is limited. If you’re going ahead I’d confirm with Ted (who sells bluebus) that it will work with yours.

To his credit he’s sourced me a better stereo that is compatible, hoping to get it to SA soon.

Thanks for the headsup! I was about to order it from them directly. But if i can get it in SA thatll save me some hassles. Is Ted on this forum? Or how can I contact him? Hopefully it’ll all work fine.

The only option is to import.

Ted is the American founder who created the device.

I installed my BlueBus last night and couldn't be happier. It is a wonderful device, and took about 5 minutes to install. My cars sound is transformed.

Hi

Using my E85 more often, I am also looking for this solution.

@markmc where did you source your BlueBus from?

In my opinion its worth it. The sound is great. The song titles are shown on your head unit. The steering wheel controls work. You can do a bluetooth calling retrofit (with some aditional expense and effort).

It is expensive, but it modernizes the sound system. If the car is a keeper, then in my opinion, its worth the money. Typically you want nice music in your Roadster, and CD's are a hassle these days. You can get some dongle, or try the aux jack, or get a parrot. I've done all of those and I was never happy with the result.
