Z3 Roof

Hi guys

So last night after taking a drive to a friends house I decided to put the roof down as I usually do when it's a nice cool evening. When I wanted to put it back up it went about a 3'rd of the way and stopped? It had done it before so what I did is just put the ignition off and on again and it worked. This time around every time I do that it moves about 2cm and stops again. After about 5 minutes of struggling I gave up and checked if it will go down. Witch it did??

So now. The first question... Is there a possibility that the button is just faulty or a sensor that is busy going? You can't hear the motor running when you press the button so it can't be that the roof is stuck.

Question no 2... Can I somehow put the roof up manually because Murphy law is that the weather isn't playing along for a guy that's roof can't go up...

Thanx

This why I will never get a vert. Murphy is too well known to me.
At least with a sun roof you have a manual over ride.

In the boot on the left side behind the rear light you will find the pump.

There you will find what looks like a T piece. Turn it and will allow you to use the roof manually.

My e36 vert has a lever under the passenger seat that dis-engages the top motors and then u just move it manually

Zack, have it checked out bud.

Last night when I left work around 11 I tried to quickly check but the carpets don't pull back as easily... I did see the pump but didn't peel it far enough to check if I can disengage something. Will be able to check it later.

From what I gather it's not a major problem unless the motor is faulty. They are apparently hard to come by. But I am pretty confident it's just one of the sensors or wires.

Or so I hope... :fencelook:

Yeah forgot to update earlier. I found that little tap thing to engage manual. At least now it's faster up and down. :fencelook:

So this weekend I'm taking my car apart to find the problem...

So looks like there is a electrical problem with the roof. :bangdesk:

Motor works fine so that's a relief. So for now it's oficcialy a manual roof... Until I have the patience to get it fixed. Upside is... It's 10x faster if you do it manually. Down side is... It looks less cool...

Dude, I remember reading somewhere that there is a switch for the roof on the brake pedal.

Maybe have a look. I know that you have to press the brake for the roof to function.

Yes there are two switches. One on the brake pedal that is also connected to the lights. That one works because my brake lights work. The other one is on the roof itself. I jumped it with a piece of wire and still nothing. So must be something else. But I can live with it for now. After my clutch problem this is the last of my worries...
