Z3 2.8 Resonator box rattle replacement

Hi guys,

My resonator at the rear of my exhaust has started to rattle terribly.

I had it at a local exhaust place, they suggested cutting it out and bypassing with pipe but also warned that it would make the car a lot louder. I already removed the cat which made the car sound a bit deeper. Don't really want to make the car any louder.

So they told me to go buy the part at BMW and they would fit it, but BMW does not sell it separately. Replacing the entire exhaust just for the resonator seems a bit over kill.

Just wondering if anyone on the forum replaced the resonator with a different aftermarket part?

Not yet,

I've been away for a while and was going to sort it out now. But had some car trouble last week.

Serpentine belt snapped when I started my car at work 19:00 at night last Tuesday, 68km from home Might have been defective, not even 6 months old.

I've left it at work for the weekend now and taking it to Ross Duncan next week to sort it out. Just don;t have any DIY time anymore.
Going to have him do some more preventative maintenance while it is in.

Will focus on the exhaust after it is running again.

My Z has got 275000Km on the clock now, and wow it seems to have reached that point where things are constantly failing now.
I seem to be fixing stuff all the time now. :nonono:

Finally got to the exhaust.

All fixed up. The car is tip top now :=):

Replaced the cat box and the resonator. When I got to the exhaust place they had another Z on a lift with a similar problem.

Extremely good service from DE GRAAF UNDERCAR in Moreleta Park. Honest and reasonable price.

Very reluctantly selling my car now.
