at least the majority looked like the passenger cabin was still survivably intact.

I look at some of the pictures on the ER24 facebook page, and seeing the crumpled remains of the little "soap-boxes" that are driven around today, I will take my bets in my E38 any time....and to a slightly lesser self perceived level my E39 as well.
