So we got this X5 e53 3.0 Diesel auto... Drives well. I just repaired the manifold studs that were broken about 2 months back and the car has been running like a bomb..Until now... Driving from work all was running smoothly stopped at the store, the car started up fine drove off and the revs just picked up through the roof and the car just starts smoking blocking all sight...immediately turn it off... Towed the car home... left it to cool off. started it up again and the same thing just revs up immediately and smokes like helll.....any ideas where to start...

Dude do not start it again. Go YouTube Runaway diesel engine, your turbo has fucked out and spewing oil into the intake system, the term oil burner sound familiar for a diesel? That's because they can run on oil, what will essentially happen Is all the oil from your engine will exit from the turbo into the intake this results in the engine running on it's own oil, you are extremely lucky that you managed to switch it off, in some cases it will continue running until the engine runs out of oil and disintegrates. Long story short pull your turbo and replace it. Remove all the boost pipes, intercooler and intake manifold and clean all associated parts and sensors from oil then only reassemble.

wouldnt suggest rebuilding the turbo if you are in PE very few people get the rebuild of these turbos correct.you are better off going with a new turbo, also replace the oil feed and do a full oil change + oil filter replacement.
