X5 (old vs new) opinions

I've been thinking about a replacement for the X5, not that I'm gonna replace it any time soon, but MAYBE at the end of next year. In any case, beside regular services and tyres, the only issue I had was injectors that needed cleaning. Other than this, the car has been a pleasure to own (out of MP) and drive. She is now sitting on 130K KM and is still chugging along fine. I'm only averaging 10K to 15K a year on it, which is now going to influence my replacement ....

I've always liked the idea of a V8 and currently contemplating either the old E53 X5 4.8is or the newer (but used) E70 4.8i.

Looking at current trends, a E53 4.8is ('05 to '07) is around the R300k-R350k mark nowadays while the E70 is around the R400k-R450k mark. In a years time, I would expect both to depreciate at about the same rate, so there would still be a R100k or so diff.

Now, what would you take and why. The 4.8is came very well specced in SA and has a awesum V8 soundtrack, while the newer E70 4.8i is generally not as well specced and is not as performance oriented as the 4.8is BUT is newer.

From experience, I'm leaning towards the E53, as they seem to be very well made (based on my current ownership experience). Regardless of whether I buy in/out of MP, I'm quite comfortable with driving them after MP expires, but I'm slightly afraid of the possible electronic gremlins in the E70.

So, give me your opinions on these cars. What would you take and why?

NB: The 330i will remain as my daily driver for now.
