X5 M57 diesel injector issue?

Hi Guys

I have been searching a bit and don't seem to find a solid answer so really not sure if this has been asked before.

I am getting a lot of lag and power loss on my diesel X5 (M57 engine) coupled with black smoke when I put my foot down. Rough idle as well and the engine seems quite a bit louder than it used to. Lots of km's though (380k), never missed a service. I have already done the basic firsts like boost hosing, intercooler, turbo seals and exhause gaskets. Also had the turbo inspected by a reputable turbo specialists and all seems fine. The exhaust manifold has also been checked for cracks and is still rock solid. Diagnostics aren't picking up anything either. (Done on Launch machine). This leads me to believe the injectors are the culprit here.

What would the symptoms of bad injectors be and is there any way I can test them myself before paying thousands to get them "fixed"?

Best qoute I got so far is R2500 per injector for recon. I definitely do not have R15k lying around waiting to be used on something. Could you guys recommend anyone in the Pretoria area that is decent priced?

Thanks a million in advance

Hi, your symptoms sound definitely like injectors, especially with your mileage. Best is to take it out and have them tested. I can't refer you to anyone though as I am in the free state. Then clever guys recon you should actually have it tested on 150 000 km the first time. Your lambda sensor should actually pick it up if your car over-fuel, unless it is deleted. Good luck, hope you can sort it out.

I had my injectors done by a place in Honydew / Laser Park called Rodac Injection Services. They replaced the nozzles and calibrated the injectors. Really good service and all seems well with the injectors.

Hi. I would recommend trying out Wynns, Wurth or Liqui Moly DIESEL injector cleaner and see if it makes a difference. Ideally take a long drive after putting in the cleaner rather than doing too many stop start runs. One bottle of Injector cleaner in a FULL tank of Diesel.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I have done the fuel injector cleaner already, there is improvement but definitely still not like it should be. I will have a look into incomex.

Thanks

What's your fuel consumption like? If it's heavy on fuel, an injector or two might be injecting too much fuel, and be out of spec. You need to do the engine roughness regulator test to see which ones are not working properly.

[/quote]Hi guys an update, i took the car for injector test and the number 4 injector is the culprit. Problem now, the injector is stuck. The other injectors are still perfect. I have been searching and i dont seem to find the right sliding hammer tool or someone with the right one. Any ideas?

I also struggled to get someone with the right sliding hammer to remove the injector. Luckily mine came out easily. Yours might need the puller to get it out.
