While driving my X5 The revs start climbing automatically and the car started smoking heavily (white smoke)... Checked and the oil level was correct. Switched off immediately and towed the vehicle home...Left to cool down checked coolant levels and all were fine. Started the car up again and the revs just climbed with the same smoke but when I turned the ignition off it did not cut off immediately..Anyone out there have any advice please..

Sounds like a turbo gone and your motor on the verge of a runway (google diesel runway)

I wouldnt run that engine again. Take it to a mechanic

The motor ran for less than 30 seconds and i cut it off.... There is quite a bit of oil in the boost pipes aswell. Would getting the turbo overhauled resolve the issue. I have already taken the turbo off.

Provided that nothing else has been messed up, yes.

You are extremely lucky not to have experienced the runaway diesel
