X5 boot alignment

Hi Guys.

I have a 2007 3.0d (E70) X5. I stay on a farm and the roads are a little rough. over the past 20 months, i have had to replace the rear boot rubbers and get the boot alignment done twice.

My problem is that when we are on the dirt road, the boot seems to suck in dust and whatever you have in the boot gets covered by dust.

Is there anything else I can do to prevent this? The boot alignment normally only lasts for about a week and then it starts sucking he dust again.

I am at wits end - I love my car, but this boot alignment is really starting to make me wonder if I bought the right car for the job!

Any info anyone has will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

The problem with the boot lid is a well known problem with X5 (E70)
I have three X5 ad all 3 got the very same problem, even the newest one (2009)

I had a constant boot rattle when I had mine - no amount of adjustment by the dealers could get it right :thumbdo:

Bugger - so looks like I am stuck with it then.

Would it be really difficult to try an realign it myself every once in a while just to keep the "seal" intact?

I also had the rattle on my 2007 E70 but no dust leaks.

I have to adjust the bootlid about once a year, making sure to adjust both catches on the side for the lower panel as well as the centre catch for the upper panel. I also lubricate the seals with silicone spray.

This normally cures the rattle for me.

Well there go my plans of getting an X5. Thanks for the heads up guys!!

The rattle was the boot cover ! Put some silicone on the two fittings and the rattle........was history

Thanks for the tip, I think I heard a rattle coming from the back the other day. Perhaps this will sort it out.
