X5 4.6is

Hi guys I'm new to the forum so just wanted to know if u guys can help me with something. I have a X5 4.6is which recently overheated and ended up having no compression. When the motor was stripped we found all the pistons damaged. So my question is if anyone knows where I can get a sub assembly or if there is a conversion that can be done with the 4.4i block?

Wouldn't it be easier to source a 4.4i engine and install it. 4.6i engines are very scarce. I hope mine stays in tact. Taking mine end of month to bmw for service and to check cooling system. had to top up water a few times past few months. hopefully can be sorted under warentee.

what is the difference between 4.4 and 4.6 motors? can 4.4 do duty in x5 4.6is without mods?

There is an Engineeering works in Pretoria that will re sleeve the block.

The 4.4 block may be used however you will have a 4.4 displacement.
