Quick question for you BMW junkies. :) I have had many BMW's over the years, most of them leased. I bought an X3 M40i new in 2020 and the lease comes up in June. I don't want to spend the kind of money they are asking for these cars anymore. I can buy my one for about 650K. Alternatively I have to move down to an X1.
What do you guys think of the buy?, good or not?. Car has 56k on the clock, new tyres and is in pristine condition.

Buy it! You cannot get that much of a car with that beautiful B58 motor for close to that price. Extend the motorplan as much as you can as the time gets near.

Thanks for your post. Kind of what I thought. I read in here some horror stories of BMW petrol engines but I have had no issues with this car since the day I bought it. I saw recently a new Hyundai Santa Fe is over a million - could not believe it.

Joh, too many questions here. Depends on your financial circumstances, but personally I would far rather stick with the M40i than anything lesser for the same installment. You still have 2 years mplan left as well.

The B58 is definitely one of BMW's finest motors and I don't think there are any major issues with them, especially considering you should have the Gen 2 motor in your LCi X3. But as I suggest extend the motorplan for piece of mind.

It’s a no brainer to keep it.

How did the leasing experience work for you as opposed to conventional HP?
I typically changed cars regularly, and worked for a company that did the navigation systems for the automotive sector. When I left them I moved to leasing as I thought that would avoid the inevitable shortfall when you wanted to change. The lease is more expensive and the residual or balloon payment these days is easier to cover with the cost of cars going up so much. I would not do it again. It's perfect for someone who has a vehicle allowance though.
On its return, the vehicle is put through an exhaustive check which is to be expected, and any anomalies are for your account. Anything outside of "normal wear and tear' has to be sorted.

Yea, the idea of leasing has just never sat well with me. It's expensive in an ideal scenario. Now, have some issue crop up, or be involved in an accident, and it's even more unforgiving.

It's a no from me, dawg.

Thanks for the info. I have been doing some research on the B58 and more specifically the Generation 2. I assume that the B58B30 MO is gen 1 and the B58B30OI is generation 2. Gen1 is 265kW and Gen 2 then is 285kW. On the specifications given on car.info there seems to be two derivatives. You sound like you know way more than I do on this - is there any way for me to determine which one I have?

The 285kW ones are the LCI models that would be 2023 onwards (or late 2022 iirc). Easily identifiable with the new tail lights, headlights and X3M style mirrors. All pre LCI X3's were 265kW.

Apparently there was an update on the pre-lci versions. When I did a check on mine before buying, it came up as the 285kw version. I stand to be corrected, this is just info provided to me by BMW when I did my checks.

Won’t a VIN decoder show the engine revision number?
