Hi Need some advise Please I am trying to help a friend with a 2005 X3 2.0 L Diesel The car starts fine but the moment you try and rev it dash flashes DDE and shuts off. If you start and let it idle, it idles fine.
Code comes up as p3005, Now I know all is related to fuel rail pressure.
Before this the friend told me that it would have low power and miss under load and then if you push it hard it would clear and have full power and then run fine.
I suspect the high pressure pump but what is confusing me is that the Low pressure pump in the tank usually only runs for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on until either the fuel rail/or pump regulator switches it off.
This is not happening the pump can be heard running constantly with ignition on and not in start mode ,making me think that the fuel go to the HP Pump and then returning back to the tank not actually supplying enough pressure to the HP pump.
Now if the high pressure pump is faulty can this happen? Can it be bypassing back to the tank?
Could it be a faulty fuel pressure regulator ? Fuel actuator valve?
What would tell the low pressure pump in the tank not to switch off?
There is also a low pressure pump at the fuel filter ,the car is standing and would have to be towed to me in order for me to check it out properly. Any help will be much appreciated
I only have a simple code reader :ty:
