X1 Steering mystery

I havean X1 2.0d every so often and this only occurs on a journey where I have been travelling for at least an hour and at a constant speed, my steering tightens up, it is not fluid and extra effort is required to steer which results in a jerky movement,as soon as I stop at a toll or whatever steering is back to normal, sometimes this will not happen again on same journey.
I have addressed this with the agents,unless they go on a long constant speed drive nothing shows up. My model has the electric steering, so should I insist that the power unit is changed its still under motor plan. Worried it may occur with another member of my family driving and not knowing how to handle the situation.

That sounds dangerous. Take it to another dealership, and insist that they sort it out.

This issue is well documented on the Z4's.

Its the electric power steering motor, and BMW must replace it for you, as you will end up selling the car because of it.
