or if you know of anyone who's arm could be twisted into selling=)

thanks

p.s

1991 E31 850i Calypso red

New engine at around 280k km. Currently on 420k km or somewhere there.

The amount of invoices he has on things replaced is scary. New steering rack new motor etc...

He said he's looking at advertising at R240k but the driver seat needs recovering. He will accept R220k.

yeah, also saw that earlier,

just so sceptical of those engines in S.A...

we didnt get those in any of our local cars hey>?

Depends which motor you are referring to. The motor in the 840's 4.0l and 4.4l are in thousands of SA BMW's. The V12 in the 850's was in one or two 7 Series in SA as well.

Here is mine 1995 840CI - 100% restoration. Nothing skipped or not done. More than R400K spent on restoration in new imported original parts, paintwork interior etc, etc. Definitely NOT for sale

There were 3 variants of the 850. The 850i had the 5 litre V12 motor which was also fitted the E32 750i/iL. The 850ci had the 5.4 litre v12 motor which was also fitted to the E38 750i/iL. The 850Csi had the 5.6 litre v12 motor which was unique to the 850Csi, no other BMW was fitted with this motor, however, version 2 of this motor was fitted to the McLaren F1.

The part about version 2 of that engine being fitted to the McLaren F1 is incorrect.

As per Wikipedia:

"Gordon Murray then approached BMW, which took an interest, and the motorsport division BMW M headed by engine expert Paul Rosche[8] designed and built Murray a 6.1 L (6,064 cc) 60-degree V12 engine called the BMW S70/2.[9] At 627 PS (461 kW; 618 hp)[10][11][12] and 266 kg (586 lb) the BMW engine ended up 14% more powerful and 16 kg (35 lb) heavier than Gordon Murray's original specifications, with the same block length. It has an aluminium alloy block and heads, with 86 mm (3.4 in) x 87 mm (3.4 in) bore/stroke, quad overhead camshafts with variable valve-timing (a relatively new and unproven technology for the time) for maximum flexibility of control over the four valves per cylinder, and a chain drive for the camshafts for maximum reliability."
