i have a 46 inch sony 3dtv, it has an external 3d transmitter and has wireless, good tv, very nice picture, no complaints. i got about 10 3d movies and 4 pairs 3d glasses but truth be told i hardly watch 3d. the first movie my wife and i watched was resident evil and afterwards had a headache, suppose you must get used to it that was our first time. the documentaries are amazing, its like you can actually touch the fish, crazy cool.

ive got a 46" Samsund 3D Tv. I have 3 pairs of glasses.

My wife and I watch 3D movies on it about once or twice a week. We havent experienced any headaches, however weve heared of headaches and eye strain occuring as well.

@The Mo - Those glasses free 3D TVs are still a lil far away from being commercially viable. I think the next best option would be to get polarised glasses like you do at the cinema. people dont experience headaches with those.

Ive played GT5 in 3D. The 3D effect wasnt extremely noticable, nor was the "pop" there.

the 3D without glasses tv's are terrible. They have/had them at OR tambo departure's, those LG promotion stands. Any slight head movement and the picture fucks up and gives you a huge headache

avatar in 3d at cinema was nice though, only 3d movie I have seen

I paid R13k for my Samsund 3D tv. This came with a free pair of glasses including the Monsters vs Aliens 3D Blu Ray. So along with the one pair of glasses that comes with the TV I now have 3.

I bought the TV from Cats Digital who were also kind enough to upgrade my PS3 to the 3D update that was released last year.

Even if you dont like the 3D out there now, its nice to have a TV that will be able to support the function when it becomes mainstream.

@Calypso - Everyone thought that HD was a fad. Then it became mainstream.

Then everyone thought that Blu Ray was a fad. This also became mainstream.

I believe that 3D is going to be cool in the near future.

P.s. My TV has super excellent non 3d HD capabilities.

Mine is the Samsung C750.

IMHO, rather get a really good LED TV with a high contrast ratio instead of a 3D TV.
Not much to go by, size wise comparisons - but I've got a 27" Samsung monitor for my PC with a 70 000:1 contrast ratio and it's fantastic!

You do realize that the 70000:1 contrast ratio is not realistically achievable in real life? And it will be closer to 700-1000:1. Check reviews. Specs on LCDs are not regulated and usually a load of BS. I have measured monitors with claimed 2ms response times to be closer to 20-25ms. The best thing to use is your eyes when choosing a display. But I agree, 3d is way too expensive VS its usefullness at the moment. If you buy one now, in a years time a new one with the same or better specs will cost half of what you paid....

Doh! Maybe I'm a sucker for marketing then ;)
I knew about the response times, interesting about the contrast ratio's though. Nice write-up on Wiki about this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrast_ratio#Contrast_ratio_in_a_real_room

Contrast ratio in a read room said:
In marketing literature, contrast ratios for emissive (as opposed to reflective) displays are always measured under the optimum condition of a room in total darkness. In typical viewing situations the contrast ratio is significantly lower due to the reflection of light from the surface of the display, making it harder to distinguish between different devices with very high contrast ratios.[4] How much the room light reduces the contrast ratio depends on the luminance of the display, as well as the amount of light reflecting off the display.[5]
A clean print at a typical movie theater may have a contrast ratio of 500:1[6] Dynamic contrast ratio is usually measured at factory with two panels (one vs another) of the same model as each panel will have an inherent Dark and Light (Hot) spot. Static is usually measured with the same screen showing half screen full bright vs half screen full dark. This usually results in a lower ratio as brightness will creep into the dark area of the screen thus giving a higher luminance.

The wiki entry also neglects to explain that factory CR is usually measured with software backlight compensation enabled ("dynamic contrast" mode setting). Something that does not work in real life, and spoils the viewing experience (it was only developed to increase CR numbers). This effectively means that the backlight is switched off when the dark measurement is taken. The correct way as stated is to measure it with one half of the screen white and the other black.

70 000: 1 is actually not a very high claimed CR.

Ive seen LED's claiming a CR of 2 000 000: 1.

Also, if you do choose to buy an LED tv make sure that its a backlit LED not an Edge Lit LED. The Edge Lit LEDs dont offer as good picture quality as a good CCFL LCD. Backlit LED's are the bomb.

recently I saw that there was a LG LX9500 47" Backlit LED going for R14k. This TV has received excellent reviews and is on the Top 10 TV list at one of the leading HD Panel Review Sites. Co-incidentally, this TV also has excellent 3D capabilities.
