Why SA hate taxi drivers

so last week i got a new dash cam and decided to test the camera and play with the new toy.

this was purely for fun and to record runs with he fanatics.

And secondly i work in the "intelligence" environment.

so on my way to work this morning this idiot taxi driver ( nothing new to road users in sa) agitated me.

now i have the following questions.

1) what would the saps or Metro do with footage of for example the video i posted?

2) can this be used to prosecute or legally pursue reckless and negligent drivers and drunkenness on the road?

sorry for the dirty windscreen and sun glare.

They prob won't do anything about it, but I know for fact in Taiwan people can can take pictures or videos and take them to police and get it prosecuted:)

I think a dash cam can be VERY helpfull on our roads.
No issues with he said/she said its all on video.

I think they will just say that "he put his emergency lights on". The taxi drivers think the moment they press that button they can do anything. :nonono:

what a toss, the main problem is that the soon to be passengers dont stand at designated spots thus causing havoc!

Last week, had a minor run in with a taxi driver. To set the scene, two lane road, going downhill. I was approaching a green robot, a jeep Cherokee on my left going similar speed to me ( I was in the right lane), prob going around 40/50 km/h. We are about 20/ 30m from the robot intersection when taxi decides he wants to U-turn. Now fortunately we were driving slowing, I saw this early and slowed down comfortably (Brembo ftw), but the jeep had to brake hard. So now I am driving slowing past the taxi (Now on my left as he is completing the u turn), as he looks my way, I flip him the bird (Middle finger) which he deserved for being an asshole and putting many peoples lives at risk just so he could turn a few seconds earlier. Anyway, I drive off and aim to turn right at the next robot, I am sitting in the turning lane when the taxi drives up close to my left side of the car, and leans out the window to try and open my passenger door, fortunately it was locked, he is in a rage, and I am pissed off now that he thinks he can try this shit, I tell him to fuck off and he drives slightly ahead, I get my mace spray out as I am now concerned cause he has blocked my car off, he is so angry he is spitting while shouting, he then drives off, I think he was concerned that I was gonna pull a gun as I was fumbling for my mace. Guys like this are going one way....to hell. Scary moment as you never know what he ha on him. Lets say that my adrenalin was pumping so Hard that if it had turned out to be a fight I prob would have broken him (He was super skinny). I try to avoid these things but this guy was on a whole new level of crazy... This happened in Sandton central area.:fencelook:

Its wrong the way they drive, it would be an interesting statistic to see how many accidents on average are caused by taxi's. you are right we have to be cautious around them, Last thing I want is to get my car damaged:cry: but if everyone just sits back and lets them get away with it they will just get worse. Catch 22 right here, mostly I just let them do their thing, but this time I was pissed at the arrogance of the driver and the pure lack of respect for life.

Dude I agree with you, what i'm trying to say is I don't really get all worked up and pissed about it (I'm loosing enough hair already:roflol:) With all due respect, Dippie 2nd video you can clearly see the taxi was going to do some stupid @$$ illegal turn, now is it really worth it to cut in front of him and not let him thru? even tho dippie did have the right of way:fencelook: That's why I said is better to do defensive driving then offensive, coz end of the day you just want to arrive safe and sound:thumbs:

If you guys think the SA taxi drives bad, try driving is China or Taiwan where I been... Yo nobody let anybody thru and is the worst:nonono:

that is why i decided to record all my trips and i will try to do some damage with the recording material. I will do my best to take all these things to the appropriate authorities.

Well at least i got one success story for you was 2 years or so ago and a guy was behaving like a @ss on the road so i lay a reckless endangerment charge against him as well as reckless driving. so after a year or so i got feedback from the prosecuting authority that he was given a

1) R5000 admission of guild fine
2) Suspended sentence with jail time for 3 yr's if committed the same offense and was found guilty
3) suspended license for 2 years also suspended.

and a embarrassment of facing me with a smile again after a year.

BTW the guy in the Military vehicle in the last video is now also charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and misuse of Military vehicle.
