Which BMW was first with Angel-Eye's as standard

Whilst driving around today, fetching spares and springs, looking at all the BMW's I see around me, I got to thinking

which model BMW was the first to offer as "factory" standard, the now signature look of "Angel-Eye's"

I am racking my brain, and seem to think that it was the E39 "LCI" post 2001 or so

anybody else that can comment ?

e39 FOR SURE....However - didnt the M5 come out with the Angel eyes first?

Checking the net - shows me pre-face lift M5's with Angel eyes...So Im leaning towards the M5 being the first.

I think that might have been with the xenon option, or optional extra? But definitely not standard.

Was standard with all facelift E39's.

The introduction of angel eyes might seem like a good thing, but it is actually rather tragic, as it marked the death of the iconic round headlights that BMW was know for. Well so much so nowadays that on some models the inner two lights are just cosmetic....just so there is space for four angel eyes so it looks like it has four headlights.

BMW's design language has been evolving over the decades. I dont always like the looks of a new model but it always grows on me and then i love it.
