Which BMW Next?

Hi
I have had the E36 M3 for a while now I wanted to sell it at 200 000km at this point Im thinking I will keep it until around 210 000km

The thing is what do I get next?

I always considered either a E46 M3 or an E39 M5, I also dreamed of a E60 M5, but maintenance and fuel consumption is not viable financially for me at this point.

I still love the E46 M3 but I dont look forward to being murdered by the software`d G6 GTIs and X35s.

also the E46 M3 is a coupe I wanted something with 4 doors but its not really super important

There still seems to be a few good M5s around with decent mileage on them. and they seem to be in and around 150k which is really affordable, even though finance is more tricky.

Then there are the x35`s most of them still in mplan which is great, twice the price of the M5 and at least 80k more than the E46 M3, but they seem very quick with those jb4 mods. I dont particularly like the look of the 135, I love the 335 coupé.

If money wasn't an obstacle I would get an E39 M5 and a 135.
So what is a man to do?

Is there anyone in CT that can show me what a 135 with software is like? Also are there any E46 M3`s with mods?

I want performance, reliability, x-factor, ok fuel consumption and reasonable maintenance. What are the differences between the 135`s and 335 coupés? Do x35`s have personality like the M cars?

If you don't want to get an E46 M3 since a GTi or x35i will kill you then buy a GTi or an x35i :fencelook:

I really wouldn't be bothered about who will murder who on the street. I'm pretty sure a Corsa or an Uno somewhere could whip my ass - doesn't mean he has the better car.

You'll still have the M3, he'll drive home in a Golf. Big difference there.

E46 M3 or E39 M5. Depends on what you're looking to spend and how hard you're willing to look. Personally, I'd take the M5 - but remember that these V8's are a lot more expensive to maintain compared to the E46 M3's.

I picked up my E39 M5, fully financed and my E39 525i as a trade-in through WesBank if you're looking for somewhere to start. Good luck, keep us posted with what you end up buying :=):

E39 M5

It may not be as fast as something x35i, but IMO it has a lot more character. However, it all depends on what you're after too.

+1

If I was in your shoes, I'd go for the E39 M5 simply because it's my dream car

I'll take your M3

I love the E39 M5
Bonus = 4 doors, full spec, awesome power and its an M car
When the time comes I need to make sure my Lady goes to a good home. Will post it on the forum first

When I look at an M5 it has heritage, not sure if this makes sense, but its rare, I have probably seen less than 10 on the streets in my entire life, there is something special about it, when I go to my macky and the M5 is there it makes my day. I dont mean to piss anyone off the x35s are awesome but they don't give me the same feeling.

Sorry for the dumb question gents, but would a modded Mk6 GTI kill a Modded E46 M3?

Yes.

I know its silly and not mature
But I wont like that very much.

Im sure I will run into some some modded GTI`s soon would like to see how quick they are on the streets I heard scary stories lol.
hopefully there are lots of bends :)

All I know is my macky said something to the effect "chipped x35`s those things are pigs, you cant come with this!" referring to my M3, needless to say I didn't like that very much hehe. This was in response to me asking what a x35i with software was like.

I apologise if I upset the E46 M3 owners, I am basing that on the fact that I have been told me to go buy a golf :)

Like Jeff said above, there is always someone faster no matter what car you buy!!!
Buy it for your own driving pleasure and forget the rest..
All BMW's are drivers cars, with the ///M cars having much more of a race car feel.

Personally i would not buy a bmw without motorplan unless i could afford xxx amount of cash to spend on maintenance.

an 08/09 x35i will cost abt R200 - R300k, will have MP peace of mind. tons of tuning potential, decent fuel econ, and is a great drivers car..

M5 V10 is just EPIC..... but i recon u need $$$ to maintain out of MP
E39 M5... out of MP but a classic V8!!!
E90/2/3 M3 V8.... early model 07/08 might cost you R400k - R500k with a bit of MP....

At the risk of being a moron....

Have you considered a 330d, with manual gearbox and a tune..

Going to pick it up for R2.73, with a simple bit of work, you can create a 700Nm monster @ 7l/100

I didnt actually think about that, I will do some reading up
A nice 330d with sports pack and some software?

Here's jeff's M5 and this alone is reason enough for me :) :)

Even with my slow 540, there's nothing like firing up the V8 after long day at work :thumb:

I know even the E36 M3`s maintenance can get a bit hairy at times hehe but I knew what I signed up for. that said I would prefer a car with mplan.

Would love to go test drive an x35 and 330d the only crap these days is in CT you cant just go test drive a car any more you need to apply first and give all your details its crap if you still deciding. Will need to make a plan. Any idea what the JB4 software and tuning costs?

Use to be so easy just get the M car that you can afford?
Now its complicated.
