Where to from here?

So... Last year I sold my E60 530d. Replaced it with an E90 320d. While the 320d is a great car it left me feeling a bit empty and it lacked what I really wanted from a car. Space and power. Effortless power.

So I traded the 320d for a W211 E320 CDI in the hopes that it would satisfy the need.

Really good car. However this exact example seems to be a bit of a lemon so I'm working with the dealer to either fix it or take it back. Either way I no longer want the car and will part ways with it.

So now I'm trying to figure out what next... I'm not really ready to go down the SUV/x5 route.

My heart is still pretty set on a 5er however 530d's are scarce. I'm not shopping in the F10 bracket right now... So I'm leaning towards a 550i right now

So if you were me... What next... I actually want something thats not a diesel for a change. I've only ever owned diesels. I want space and I want power. Consumption is not of a huge consideration as my current commute is fairly easy going...

Keen to see the thoughts here

Sorry to hear about your woes with the Merc.....

Given your budget and not being restricted to a tractor, I would get the 550i

So youre looking for another E60? If you've had an E60, they're a known quantity. I've had my 550i for 2 years, and other than the routine BMW renewals that you'd expect, it's been trouble-free. So much so that it almost lacks a bit of character compared to the older cars. The fuel consumption isn't something I ever think about because it's so smooth and syrupy and wonderfully fast that I would struggle to move to a tractor (but I'm biased).

I think the F10 is a bit meh in comparison, even though it's an objective improvement in most ways (engine aside in the 550i). Wouldn't know what to replace mine with.

Well, since you need a break from diesels and you are still young (relatively - it's Rob after all), why not an ///M?

You must try the f25 X3, either the 3.0d or the 3.5i, you will not regret, look at their specs, awesome, a really nice not to compact SUV. Same power as the X5 but about 350kg lighter.
Meet me somewhere and drive the car, I had 4 x 3.0d "X-drives"

I don't deny that they're epic cars. But right now I don't want to spend more than 200k... So that rules them out

My vote for what your asking also goes to the 550i, with the budget you mentioned you can get a very nice one and have enough for maintenance,
Petrol etc and have a huge smile on your face, do it!!

You said it 550i  in E or Feseries.

I was driven in the eseries and was impressed with the comfort, space and effortless power. The Feseries 550i i drove and wanted one really bad afterwards...so much power there.

My only issue was they big cars (or feel big)...

:eek:mgwaiting: your first mistake - 530d to 320d :dunnoanymore: :thumbdo:

look at this baby - take it for a test drive -- https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=84979

you will be very surprised what these guys are capable of and the drive is awesome. :fencelook:

Yeah no it was a mistake. Not to knock the 3er... Its a hugely entertaining drive from a cornering/handling perspective. She's light on her feet and nimble but not what I'm wanting....

As much as a V12 7er is an epic idea. I really cant handle the styling of the pre facelift E65

Throwing this out there for your consideration - a 4th Gen Lexus GS350. Prices are around R250k+ though, which might just be over your budget, but no turbos, so you should save in the long run.

I think that 760li is a great bargain just to own a V12 and park it in one of the garages :praise:

I think to the main question though, 550i should be nice what about a 645i or 650i?

Personally I would buy an X5! 4.8is

I'm with you on the 650i.. not so popular and the prices have dropped significantly.. unless the 550i is Msport!!
