Hi all

Have not posted in ages, the used car market is due for some reprieve soon, so the question begs, what would you buy? You have a 1.6bar budget, The restrictions :
must have some manufacturers warranty left must be fun(enjoyable to chuck around) no track time involved
must be able to take you to work and back once a week.

Also would you get one car or two?

Easy, get a used M2 comp manual and a new Jimny. R1.6m will get those both with plenty of change.

Good options.

M2 Comp in manual...now that would have been something...my guess is that part of your money will remain unspent unfortunately.

But no I also wouldn't spend R1.6m on any one car at the moment, as it would be an expensive garage queen. I like the small cars - Cayman GT4 RS or Audi RS3. Nothing by BMW that would get my our of my M2C at the moment.

For that money I would pick the M2 again and an older Toyota 200 series LC. Gotta have a truck for a daily. My 105 is still going strong but something more refined would be welcome. I swapped garage queen Fridays with Fridays on the GSA though - keeps me much happier in load shedding traffic.

GT4RS is almost double your budget when you've spec'd it, I think base price is around R2.7m - with decent options you're over R3m.

R1.6m is actually an odd amount because it's around what the new M2 costs, RS3 is around R1.5m as well. CLA45 also about there.

They're fast sure but I'm not sure I could stomach that much money on one of those.

Alternative to spend R1.6m, get a 997C2S and spend the remainder on a brand new 320i with spec as a daily.

Depends where you're based, but a 991.2 GTS is such a great car if you're able to find one for that number.

Keep it in the family with a (BMW) Supra... perfect fun daily, without any special "///M or Porsche" tax.

Low mileage 2018/19 F90 M5 that you can extend plan on and a Z4M
This seems more and more likely. The cayman gt4 was an option, after driving it, I don’t think it’s great compared to a 911. The Z4m will satisfy the need to drive a manual and the m5 will be a great daily/ open road car. The hunt begins

Spot on - I drove the Cayman and yeah 911 for sure. Felt cramped for me but I'm 6'4 and 108kg.
Else other option would be, a supercharged E92 and an F80 M3 😈😎
