Hi there fellow BM fans... I found the following plug in the boot, I removed the cover for the battery area and found this plug. What is it used for? Some extra's I can add to my car, BT maybe? Sorry its a 320D, E90, 2011 model.

Find the bmw part number on the connector - usually 7 or 11 digits long. Then go to this: Real OEM and input the number. Select your car and it may tell you what its used for

Now you got me curious too!

I checked and i don't seem to have that one, you say loose in the battery compartment or loose elsewhere in the boot?

I've got Bluetooth but the colour scheme of the wires looks different.

maybe for the tow bar harness

There is also a second bundle going to the back of the module, with thicker black wires.

Keep us posted when you do figure it out?

the numbers on the plug read 1-828878-1 and below 1378138-05...tried both numbers...no luck.. also says Tyco on the plug with BMW as well..now i am itchy to know what this is for

I removed the battery cover where tools and manuals live. Behind the mat about 20cm from the battery, I found this plug. It is tied into the wires that come from the rear lights.

I can imagine! the itchiness

I also like know why stuff are where they are and not in use, on the N52 engine there is cable/trunking fixed to the inner side of the intake manifold, have not yet taken a picture to post and ask on the forum.

May be once you get your answer I'll use your thread to post mine and hear what the guys say? (don't mean to hijack yours now)

judging by the thickness of the red wires, that should have some current going through it when connected.

keep us posted.

1378138 that's the part number. Realoem brings up highFi and top hifi amplifier plug or periphery plug. But for the e39. It's probably just pre wiring for some something. decode your vin and see what was pre wired In the car.

OK, went to check again, where you said, and....

Ta-DA!

Found it!

My guess still is it has something to do with the "Trailer Hitch Prep" they away eagerly mention on the options list, with those mean thick red wires there to supply current to the motor that releases he semi motorized version.

ill keep looking!

and thank you, now i know where the emergency fuel flap pull is too!

as well as another item leaving me wondering "what on earth this is for"! :flyfun:

this little white box shape container thing?!

behind it another with three connectors plugging into something in it.

Cant seem to find anything concrete.

Maybe we should ask a member who has a factory fitted tow hitch, nicely, to have a look and see if his/her plug is used?

By what i did manage to find is that that white box thing i was wondering about is for the tow hitch module, which gets put in there to retain it.

O, by the way seem like having the tow hitch prep and hot climate version cars here in sunny SA also gives us the 600W radiator fan not the 400W elsewhere.

cd changer is on the left

I have the motorised tow hitch on my e90,will check tomorrow but the button to activate it sits on the right hand side,so maybe it is

I have the bicycle rack from bmw and when plugged in and engage reverse the rear pcd doesn't work, front pcd still works as normal
