What a difference

Since the temps have been fluctuating quite a bit in Gauteng lately (from low teens to almost 30 on the same day), I'm surprised by the huge difference it makes to the performance of my 330i

It almost feels like I'm driving a different car in the mornings as opposed to the early afternoons. Have to admit that having the aircon on is also a contributing factor to the performance loss, but there's quite a noticeable performance drop when the outside temp rises.

I'm almost wishing for cold weather again :mmm: and a bit of rain so I can get that back a bit loose too :)

When it is like 34 degrees then it takes ages for my 320d to get moving from stop, but it moves fine if the temp is lower, not really sure why this is caused though? maybe something to do with the CPU trying to compensate thereby altering the timing slightly.

Well hot air is less dense that colder air, which should result in lower power output for the engine, hence also the reason for fitting a cold air induction kit to boost the performance of an engine.

Then my car isn't well-designed :( it only has a snorkel from the grilles to the airbox.

Not true!!!
That snorkel is much better than these hot air sucking, lots of noise and no power, low effective cheap cone filter nonsense

Obviously

Well the problem it that the plastic of the snorkel gets so hot that you almost can't touch it, so its poorly isolated thermally.

What you need to do is make friends with someone that can get you dry ice... :mmm:
That way when its hot, you pop a piece inside your airbox so the car gets in cold air.

Ha Ha, carbon dioxide is supposed to come out the exhaust, not go in the intake..

you just trying to get the fanatics to slow down..:)

Yes, that and CO2, the engine won't be to fond of that now will it :)

I heard that if you put mothballs, :mmm:
and i mean the ones you put in your closet to keep moths away, :)
well, if you put mothballs in your petrol tank you gain power???
I hear it's an instant octane boost???
True or not?? :dunno:

Ice cream factories sell dry ice but the only place you should use it is on an intercooler/aftercooler or on the intake manifold for drag racing.

I never feel the power loss, only the power gain some mornings and when I check the temp. . . like clock work 6 deg or lower. Love it.

And going to the coast, LEKKA.

half truth.. apparently mothballs contain naphthalene , which is a hydocarbon close to benzine, and COULD be used to increase octane in fuel. the bullshit part is ofc that mothballs contain so little naph that half a tank of mothballs would hardly make a differance ... :)

they did the moth ball thing on myth busters turns out only the old old ones work the new health and safety ones are made of other stuff

Air temperature plays a big role. In the morning on my way to work the car pulls extremely well, in the afternoon it pulls okay but I feel I dont get the max out of the car. So yes winter can return....
