Hi there guys.
This weekend I had the opportunity to drive to the Lesotho border from GP for a wedding and back on the same day.
The wedding was at 4pm, So i left home at 13h00, topped up the tank with diesel and checked tyre pressure. Was an awesome drive there, very scenic.
this was the first long distance in my 320d since I bought it last year. I had the opportunity to enjoy the car on a long drive which was splendid.
Average speed was 130-140 and here and there i was able to take higher. On my way there we passed through Bethlehem and although the roads were good for most off the way, once we got off the N3, there was at least a 40km stretch peppered with potholes, that I managed to navigate very well.
Wedding was really nice and at about 7pm it was time to get back home with still 3 1/4 tank of diesel.
raise:
Unfortunately, the GPS decided that it was better to route us along about 30km of gravel road in the arse-end of nowhere, where you couldnt drive faster than 20km per hour. That chowed an hour of time.
I wasnt thrilled about this, but in my experience, if you dont know where you are, and theres not a soul to ask directions from, and the GPS is routing you somewhere, its better not to start getting creative. This included routing us through about 40km of single lane roadworks, with lollipop men controlling traffic, with an average wait of 20mins per stop, there were 4 of these. So we followed the GPS, which took us through Petrus Steyn, Frankfurt, Sasolburg, Vereeniging, Alberton and finally into JHB stad.
It took exactly 3 hours to drive there, but took 5 hours coming back, in which time I didnt stop to rest since we drove through very remote isolated roads. Got home at about midnight and off to sleep.
I got up yesterday morning and spent a few hours cleaning the amazon rainforest worth of bugs off the front of my car, washed the engine bay as well because it appears the drakensberg mountain climbed into the engine bay at some point... :nonono:
Now, i have managed to clean the car pretty well, given what I put it through on Saturday, including the engine bay.
there are some stone chips which I couldnt avoid.
Here are my questions:
1.The gravel was hectic to drive through, alignment and balancing was definitely compromised, is there anything else I should check at a Twt, Tiger W&T or BMW? Control arms and the such?
2.I noticed that the car is now idling very roughly, is it possible that all the dust clogged up my air filter?
