Wanted bmw E12 528 or 530 gearbox

guys i got gearbox back from repairs but still looking for
another 1 but i got serial number 262.0.200.00.R
is this the number i need to see from what bmw it comes from ?

guys im still looking for this gearbox had mine recon but leaking oil and making noise and did replace bearings so im looking for 5speed or 4 speed from e12 bmw i can only fit this 1 :cry::argh:

I got your message, but am out of town till tomorrow night. I'll take a photo of the box for you, but I'm sure it will fit. The 530mle was E12 as well.

not the same as E34 530 box hey? I have one of those for the V8 bmws

I suspect that you have a getrag 262 if it is a 4-speed. So you are looking for a getrag 265, which is a 5speed.

The one classic man has is a dog-leg close ratio box, most likely a 262-5, and they have a 1:1 top gear ratio, just like a 4-speed, the gears are just closer together, so it will not give you an overdrive to lower RPM at higher speeds. He could also have a 265/5 close ratio, also with no overdrive, and notoriously weak compared to normal 265 overdrive boxes.

I would recommend looking for a getrag 265(not a dog-leg close ratio), it will be cheaper as well, but there is a catch, the 262, 262-5 and 265 all use different drive-shafts, so if you are coming from a 4-speed you will have to have your shaft shortened, of get a driveshaft with the box.

Also, later boxes do not have a mechanical speedo output, I don't know if you need one, if not, you are in the clear.

Jacques is correct, mine is a 262.05.10.00. If you are looking for quick acceleration, then this will work well. If you are looking for overdrive, relaxed cruising and better economy, then look elsewhere, I'm afraid. Will post photos tomorrow.

The 530 had been re-bodied at some stage and was a wreck. I parted it out and kept the nice goodies - Box, diff, Scheel Seats and sold the boot spoiler and wheel spats.

Here are some photos of the box and the code on the diff - not sure how to decipher the code for the ratios. I haven't cleaned them yet as they went straight into storage:
