Hereby my short story.
At the end of 2015 I decided that I want something different, but it must be fast as well. So with this in mind I started my search. I do not want to spend too much, so I decided on a Datsun.
In January 2016 I got hold of a 1973 Datsun GX 1200 Coupe, highly modified with a CA18DET (1800 16V turbo) engine. A very nice looker and quite a pocket rocket. But very soon realize that this is not for me. I do have 10 thumbs and to work on a car every weekend was not part of my idea.
So I sold the car at a massive loss and started searching again. Wanted something fast, but not a ordinary car. After a bit of research the BMW Z4 came up and specific a coupe. Start searching the net, but nothing in Cape Town or nearby. The closest at that stage was a 3.0 si Coupe in Mosselbay. So it happens that we pass through Mosselbay and arrange for a test drive. The car was in a horrible condition and within 500m of the test drive I realized that the 3.0 si will not work for me.
However I liked the car a lot. The shape, the looks and the not so regular type of car made the Z4 a winner. So for the next two weeks I searched the net high and low for information on the Z4 and more specific the Z4 M Coupe. Read every bit that I could and with this landed on the BMW Fanatics forum. Register myself on the forum with the name Wannabe! What I meant was: Wannabe Z4 M Coupe owner!!!!
Within a week of registering on the forum, Daaf Vader advertise the sale of his Z4 M Coupe. Made contact with him on the Sunday. Asked him a lot of questions which he answered patiently. Organised with my brother, who lives in Secunda, to go and have a look at the car on the Tuesday. He called me just after the test drive and described every negative and positive point of the car to me. Another lot of questions and the decision was made. This one is for me!!!
Daaf Vader was so kind to keep the car for me in his garage for a week and a half. Needless to say, it was the longest week and a half in my life!!!! My brother Johann fetched the car the following Friday afternoon. Took the car straight away for smash and grab with a 35% tinting. On Saturday morning at 06:00 I took a flight to Johannesburg. Landed at 08:00. Johann fetched me from the airport with the car and we started our roadtrip to Cape Town. So we had 1500km to feel, test and discuss the car and my o my, were we impressed with it!!!! All the writings that we have read before said the ride is too harsh, the clutch is too heavy and the gearshift is difficult. Nothing of that bothered us at all. The only negative thing was the seats that were designed for people half the size of us. Set the speed control on gps speed of 128km/h and got an overall consumption of 10.4km/l!!! We were back in Cape Town at 21:30 on Saturday evening.
Just want to thank Daaf Vader for the privilege to own his beloved Z4 M Coupe. Thanks for the way that you have done the deal.
So… I am not a Wannabe anymore! I am the proud owner of a beautiful Z4 M Coupe. What a car!!! One of only 1052 right hand drive models build worldwide!
