Good day gents,

I need help. My 328i window mechanism is broken( pirate part lasted 2 months) can you buy these at the agents or where can I get a decent one?

In the exhaust there is a flap, how do I get that to be constantly open?

My 328i is an auto and when I rev it it makes a noise like it is moving a lot of air, I have heard other autos doing it and I dont want mine to.

Lastly i want TSW razors for my car, does anyone know if they come in the correct PCD for a 36 328i?

Theres a vacuum line attached to a goodie on your back box that according to vacuum opens and closes the flap - red Circle.

All you have to do is unplug the vacuum line see below

exhaust3.jpg

then block off the vacuum line like so. Red circle shows where you unplugged the line from

exhaust2.jpg

with the line blocked off, the flap should remain like this all the time :=):

i pimped this from the web BTW - but can confirm that it makes a sound difference on my 328i

I also had trouble with the window mechanisms on my old e36 and it turned out to be the clips where the window attaches to the mechanism. Got new ones and i had many miles of pleasure.

I replaced my car's window winding mechanism ~6-months ago with a pirate part and so far so good - touch wood.

The alignment of the window's movement was an issue for me...
I found setting the long adjustable lever on the mechanism a bit tricky to get right.

BTW : Thanks much for helping out a fellow fanatic with a MS-I EFI unit..!

I also had issues with window mech on both my E36s, it was the white plastic clip than runs in the window rails that was worn out, got new 1's for about R20 each from bemows with the circlip, replaced it myself. All working fine. In my opinion out of 10 it has a difficulty rating of 4! Be sure to have some grease to apply in the rails once done!

Im not sure if this is what you experiencing when you rev the car but the E36s have viscous fan, when u idle the car and rev it u usually hear that fan making wind, sort of like a van but mines goes away after a while, im sure this is the case with most!

As for the exhause flange, i haven't had any issues with mine accept than when the car is cold i hear it rattling when the car idles but it eventually goes away!

Good Luck!

Bemows (in PTA) parts are decent, they import from Germany!

Hi Rhett325.

The flap in the rear exhaust tip is "powered" via a vaccuum pipe that runs from the engine compartment. If you look on the outside of the exhaust tip that has the flap, you will see where the pipe enters a body that controls the flap. Just disconnect the pipe and blank it off, the flap should now be open permenantely. Doesnt really do much as far as performance , but there is a definite improvment as far as low rev exhaust note goes.

With regards to the moving air noise. does it happen all the time, or only at certain times? If it is all the time, then the viscous fan could be stuffed, its not meant to ba active at all times.

Thanks for the advice gents, the "scissor" part of the window mechanism has basically come apart. No real fix there, will call bemow and give the exhaust flap thing a go tonight.

@Yuvan-Thats the EXACT noise i hear, sounds like a damn van, its only when the car is obviously getting warm thou, any way to stop it? Electric fans maybe?

@328ii-Its a pleasure, nice meeting you! Your cars are real beauties!! What line of work are you in?

Gents what about the TSW razors? They available in 5 stud?
This is the style of wheel I want-

Mostly CAD in electronics & embedded stuff - basically do a lot of drawing, pcb assembly, debugging & soldering...

I havent heard of any1 installing an electric fan over the viscous fan, i wud not reccommend that as well. If that noise is more constant than before, than it might be the viscous fan packing up, have that checked out. If its normal i suggest ignor it as it goes away after awhile!

Lots of guys have installed Electric fans instead of replacing the Viscous one..

Freerider has done it to his 328i..

I did it on my 316i :)

Interesting.....
Why did you do that freerider? What are the benefits, please share?

I did it to the 316i as wanted the 1% extra power it gave

I am not on the pc now, but search for free riders thread with a whole write up on the process..

Ive done it to my vert. By removing the viscous fan you basically take a load off your engine - reduce parasitic drag and therefore free up some HP. Its also for safety sake, Many e36's have suffered from fans making contact with the radiator causing head gasket failure and all kinds of other issues.

I can say that i definitely could notice a change in responsiveness after deleting the fan and not to mention how much quieter the car is.

Cool, is the electric fan connected to the thermostat? How does it turn itself on and off?

Taking a load of the engine is highly plausible, makes sense! The thing that concerns me is why havent BMW thought of going the route with the electric fan instead that has so much benefits? Maybe some1 didnt have thier thinking cap on there...:biglol:

Whats the disadvantage of electric fan, any1 care to share?
