Vanos

Hi Guys

Ive just noticed a very slight rattle from the vanos. I cant hear it from inside the car ONLY when the bonnet is open. With the bonnet open & revving to about 2000 rpm & letting the revs drop I can hear a slight rattle almost like a piece of plastic rattling on something but its not, the sound is definately coming from the vanos. Its not the typical 'marble in a tin can' sound as most describe but more of a 'zzzzzzzzzz' sound.

What I would like to know is, Is this ok? Must it be replaced or can I just leave it? Car drives 100% no power loss etc & as i said the sound can only be heard with the bonnet open.

My car is a 1995 325i with 233k on the clock.

Thanks in advance

Update....

Spoke to BMW technician & he said that the noise is very common & its nothing to worry about. Suggested changing oil 1st. He said they do have a kit for the vanos.

Vanos kit R670, Labour R2710

Im just glad its nothing serious :)
