Under hood temp.

As you can see, i'm new to all of you and to the BM's.
I would like to know if it is normal for a 330d to have such a lot of under
bonett temp. I am use to petrol engines that does not transmit such a lot of heat. The temp gauge is in the middle so it seems to be fine. Thanks.

As long as the temp gauge sits where it's suppose to and nothing smells like burning plastic/ rubber etc, all should be good.

But hey, I have never owned a diesel car, so maybe I am not the correct guy to answer this.

ANd how does it sound, is it a noisy diesel or can you hardly tell its a diesel ?

turbo's make loads of under bonnet heat

Zaleonardz, the heat is just like much more if i compare it to my 2.0l petrol car.

freerider is right, normal petrol cars do not have turbo's on them.

Also if you suspect heat, it has to escape from somewhere, if your temp gauge is giving you half reading then its not the engine producing more then normal heat.

I assume your fans are kicking in at the right times, else you would have temp problems, so its either picking up heat from the turbo or exhaust, and if there is no exhaust leak as such (hence the question about noise), i think your all clear.

Meaning I would not worry about it.

the e39 m5 generates moerse amount of heat and as a result it suffers from heatsoak.so yes it is possible for exessive heat and especially on very hot days its even worse

My engine retains heat like crazy. I last drove my car on Friday night before doing the VANOS on saturday morning, and when I took the vavle cover off, I could feel that there was still warmth in the engine from the night before.

Same with mine. Now with the few hot days, if i use the car like after 18:00, i can still feel heat the next morning. So i asume everything is all fine then.

I wouldnt worry. As long as your temp gauge isnt reading over the half way mark, then relax

Mine is at 39.5 degrees and I have not even started it today. That's cause it BLOOOOODY hot here today... 39.5 to be exact :shocked:
