Umm, any ideas?

So I did something stupid yesterday. One of my number plate lights came up with an error on the onboard so I took the fitting/holder out to check cos I assumed that it was just a bad contact on the LED bulb which was slightly longer than the OEM ones which didn't fit as snug at the time of replacing it. I put it back into place (so I thought) and the bulb fired up again. Time to clip the holder back into its spot and with the final click, the bulb popped out and fell somewhere into the construction of the bootlid :argh: I can hear it running around between the sheet metal but I can't locate it visually so I clearly can't get it out and the space is a major problem. I can hear it running around if I open and close the lid but can't get to it.

Typical case of 'so close, yet so far' :bangdesk:

Don't want to take the boot lid off and NOOOO, putting the car on its roof isn't an option :nono:

Any ideas guys?

Use a magnet with pieces of Cloth

The magnet will stick to the sheet metal and not go down ....

You get a telescopic magnet tool. Looks like an old school car ariel, with a strong magnet at the end. Check at Midas or your local spares shop.

Looks like this

Not sure if I'm visualizing this right but perhaps you could seal off the one side of the holder using a piece of carton or something and then jack up the side of the car so the bulb would roll to the center and be caught by the carton?

Thanks man - I looked for the one I had for many years and couldn't find it yesterday. Also need to check if the heat sinks are aluminium or not so I can determined if they will attach to the magnet.

Precisely what I thought when I was swearing yesterday :argh:

Alternately, if the magnet is strong enough, you could try it from the outside. I.e. glide the magnet over the exterior (with a cloth, of course) and if it catches the bulb too, you can move the bulb to a point where you can reach it ...
