Tyre sizes???

Wsup all,

Looking to fit new tyres next week (hopefully), I currently have 215/40ZR17s in front and 225/45ZR17s at the rear. Can I go with 225/45ZR17s (f) and 245/40ZR17 (r) or is there more to it than just wanting certain tyre sizes? Also I'm looking to fit Dunlop SP7000s, any good?

Cheers:thumbs:

mmm... well if i'm not too stupid and stand to be corrected here i don't think your rim will be able to handle the wider tyres.. What rims do you have by the way ?

the new sizes are fine... but dunflop is not so good what else can go get in that price range?

the 245 can fit on a rim 8" - 9.5" wide i dont think bmw make a rim less than 8" wide...

Jakkals323i@ To be honest I'm not sure of the rim widths,I bought the car like this.

Moranor@ These aren't Beemer rims unfortunately...as for the Dunlops, the next step up pricewise were Pirellis (not sure what range). Conti Sport Contacts cost twice as much...

Pirellis are awesome tires rather go for that... the P6000 are not the greatest in the wet but i never really had a problem with them...

most aftermarket rims are 8.5" wide so you will still be fine with 245...

The shop also had Yokohamas and Bridgestones but I'm not sure which ranges? Pirelli P Zeros would be nice though!

I'd really love to put the 5 spoke rims (look a bit like M Parallels) from the 135i!

Do I really need the narrows and wides though, it's not like I've got 300 horses under the bonnet?

Doomsdaya, any particular range of Yokos and Toyos or are you saying that they are just generally better as a brand?

Not sure about the SP7000, but I had the SP7000D a long while ago (came with car when purchased). To put it bluntly, I would pay NOT to have those tyres on the car again.

Apart from being a better brand, you can control the car better in heavy rainy weather and it will last you longer.

I drove a 328i sedan with dunflops, had about 80% thread left :thumbdo: couldnt drive faster then 80km/h on the highway now thats how bad the traction is on those tyres

Don't you have to have the correct rims to run thins and wides? I know on my rims (BMW Style 44) 17" I should run 225/45 all the way around...

you dont have to have the wider rims at the back, but the tires flex less with the wider rims so it will handle better with them...

Yoh, what a difference proper rubber makes!!!!!!!Ride feels more solid, no steering wheel shimmy at 60-67kph or weird vibrations at 120kph plus. It's raining hard so I couldn't really push but I'm excited with what I'm getting so far. Even the steering has lightened up at parking speeds and no longer pulls to the right!I'm hoping to see similar gains in braking, I felt the ABS came on to early. Clearly I was riding on winegums!

Now for the bearings and bushes...
