Tyre size advice on E36 325i

I'm currently running 225-45-17 all round but was considering going 40 profile on my 17" rims, I believe standard tire size on these vehicles is 205-60-15, now my question is would it be fine to go 205-40-17 in front and leave my rear 225-45-17 ?

No you will loose rolling Circumference and affect the the Accuracy of your speedometer. It Needs to be 205/50/17 hope it helps you

I've been considering the same thing. Although I think 215 is the smallest. I'm assuming you have either 7j or 7.5j wheels.....anything narrower would be 'interesting'. Would 205's have to be stretched on a 7.5j? I'm completely against stretching.

Sorry for the hijack chap

I think my rims are 17x8.0 offset 35 not too clued on rim specs

Unless you plan on slamming the car, 205/40/17's look terrible on an E36.

If you looking for a lower profile, go with 225/40/17 or 235/40/17 which is one of the recommended sizes for E36's.

Any noticeable difference between 215 and 225 ? I also think 205 is too narrow and maybe on my rims it will have too much stretch

Oh yes also once going 40 profile it will increase gap, would have to have it lowered more, its just the 40 profile makes the look of the rim better

If you post a pic of the rim, assuming it is an original rim, I could give you the possible tyre options it came with
My 328 individual came with 225/45/17 in front and 235/40/17 rear, the car obviously had m tech suspension so the 40 profile didn't look too bad.

Yes there's a big difference between a 215 and 225 tyre.

I got 235/40/17 on my car and you've seen what it looks like, its wider and gives better grip...

I say stick to 225/45/17 all round or go 235/40/17 at the back only.

Bear in mind that 225/40/17 is an odd size so expect to pay more than for a 225/45/17.

205/40/17 is definitely a no go for 8J. That tyre size is more in line with 6.5J to 7.5J at a stretch. That tyre size I'd for Polo's, Toyotas, Golf 1's, etc. :cartel:
