Turbo failure (not mine - friends car)

did they find anything in the intake? my guess is something hard was sucked into the turbo and the turbo tried to eat it...

I'm surprised it's still in one piece. What car was it from? I can't quite see the serial on the turbo. If a swirl flap dropped onto the piston it could act as FOD onto the turbine side but not onto the compressor side as depicted here.

Could be that someone was playing around without an air filter installed...
