Hey guys

So good to be here. Quick intro. I'm nick I currently have a civic Fn2 and I've been a JDM boy most of my life. However I have always been a BMW fan. Before the Type R I was looking high and low for a clean e46 330ci but never found one and ended up in one of my childhood dream cars instead.

However the time has come to find my next dream car the e92/93 chassis has always been so damn sexy to me. I'm probably going to sell the FN2 within the next few months and I will be replacing here with either a 335 or 330.

Now going from honda to BMW is already a scary thought even more so because I'm considering the n54 engine. But I realised I've been spending money of preventative maintenance anyway so why not spend it on something with double the power and triple the luxury.

My brain is telling me the 330 is the smarter option but my heart is telling me its gotta be N54 or nothing.

But yeah as the title says, try talk me out of it.

Completely different driving style cars.
Fwd vs rwd. Na vs turbo. High Rev vs low Rev (compared to vtec) hot hatch vs coupe.

I have an m240i and my na clio 3 rs 2l is much more fun and much slower too.

if you can keep the fn2 do it if not get ready for pain. Coming from 135i n54 manual with Jb4 and Downpipes and filters and and there is always something different going wrong.
Engine is solid but the ancillaries attached are aging now and thus go boom eventually. Good luck with your choice of car I would look at an m235i or a 135i with the n55 motor if I were you. Best sounding turbo engine.

Easier to adapt from what you have than a 335.
The 330i is great but not much faster Than your civic. Definitely not as good through the twisties.

Hahahaha the "get ready for pain" made me nervous.

Yeah I hear endless stories about the amount of preventative maintenance needed to enjoy a n54 but for some reason it feels like a challange 🤣. Maybe I'm a sucker for pain.

Either way its going to be a hard decision over the coming months.

I really love the type R and its definitely one of the more fun cars out there but the 335i calls to me.

What about a 330d? Seems like a good in-between

You will regret selling your "slow" Honda... alot. Keep it if you can and rather add the x35 or 330d. A car worth doing the preventative maintenance on and that might be a less disappointing upgrade handling wise is an e92 M3 IMHO.

If you already had an n54 based 335i for years and are doing work on it now it's a different story to buying someone elses mess IMHO. Same with guys trying to buy M5s and M6s cheap now and expecting a similar experience to mine (so many people ask me I even made made thread with details). If I spend R20 or 30k here or there it's nothing... I've had 140000km to enjoy the car already and it has been paid off for years. If you are on your 10000th km of ownership and are still paying for it whilst being hit with bill after bill or hidden surprises that fun wears off pretty quickly.

Many people don't understand how good those particular Hondas are to drive (my old S2000 and the FN2) despite not having the power. At least a portion of that equation is being able to just drive and not worry about anything at the back of your mind.... track, breakfast runs, daily use? Anything other than robot to robot racing is a joy and somewhat carefree. Your money can go towards improving the car rather than fixing it.

Best advice is to first decide what you really want before selling.

FN2 vs 335 vs 330d are all TOTALLY different.

Drive them all, speak to friends, see what goes wrong and what makes you excited.

I love my 30d. It is a phenomenal car - but I have and always will be a die hard diesel boy.

Think long and hard about what YOU want out of the next car. Keep the Civic until then.
