Transmission input seal question

Hi fanatics. I'm not posting this in the 3 series forum because im assuming that the g boxes should be similar to other models.

so im calling out to all the gearbox professors....

The transmission input and output shaft oil seals...are they 'directional'? As in clockwise and anti-clockwise(indicated by an arrow) not front and back. A standard oil seal is a couple of buck were as THE STEALERS want over R300 each! can I get a decent aftermarket one, or is it preferable to go directly to the agents?

Id go with the OEM one.

You dont want to take the box out again if the aftermarket seal goes POP.

Just my 2c, filters, gaskets and seal keep them oem.

A decent shaft seal can be directional, it might have little vanes on the inside than with draw oil away from the sealing surface when the shaft is rotating.
That said they usually don't have an arrow on to show the direction as the shaft seal can only go in one way.

Also when changing the shaft seals be sure to check the actual shaft for damage as it is quite common for a groove to be worn into shaft where the seal seated. In this case you will have to seat the seal deeper or shallower so it is on an unworn part of the shaft....if this is not possible you will have to make another plan.....then R300 per seal will not seem that expensive anymore.

Shot for the input. Will definitely check that. Getting the seal, new fork, new ball pin, new clip for the release bearing today. But ill only be able to do the clutch change after xmas. Atleast she's not slipping. Unless I drive like a hooligan. And there's no real shuddering.
