Tracked the Zed

Did my first track day with my zed at the Roy Hesketh track in pietermaritzburg. Absolutely awesome experience!
Met some really friendly people who go out of their way to make u feel welcome and give u valuable advice.
Had an absolute ball driving on the track -dsc light flashing constantly, brake pedal shuddering under late, late braking.
Next time I'll try dtc mode! The Zed is damn strong- took all this punishment and took me back home to durbs without a complaint.
Brake started to go a little towards the end of my final session- but were fine after they cooled down. Front tyres were fubared!

The perils of Dunflops:nonono:

Nicely done.

Got pics or vids to share maybe?

On another note..

Wikipedia says:
In 2013 the property was put up for sale for 1.5M ZAR due to the Roy Hesketh Motor Racing Foundation defaulting on the previous sale conditions.

Word is that its already been sold. Nobody seems to know who is the new owner.
The whole thing smells fishy. It seems as if the Roy hesketh foundation are being screwed after investing a good sum of money to restore the track and then being told to bugger of due to a 'technicality'.
At the end of the day, we in kzn won't have a race track-humble though it may have been:cry:

It is definitely a problem.
There is a nice article about the much debated closing down of the Killarney track in Cape Town in this month's Speed and Sound magazine.
They explain quite nicely what the challenges are with keeping a track open.

Nice!! Initially thought it was a ///M... great to know that the 3.0Si is just as capable! Can't wait to do the same with mine :bravo:

Great work on the track use, I see far too little Z4's at track days!

How was the brake wear after the day?
My rear tires are almost fubar, just before they die I will go do my next track session.

@tinovittee. Just do it bro! The 3.0si is a great track car- fast yet forgiving enough for the track day novice. Dsc is there to help u but intervenes subtly allowing u to have fun without running into trouble.

@Daaf vader. Brake pad wear wasn't too bad-I got mettelis. Just the brake pedal started getting low- probably boiling brake fluid? Its due a flush anyway.

The local track, is hosting an open day in Feb,
Thinking of putting the Z4, on the track for this outing.

Think I may have more “fun” than what I had with Big Blue in October last year
I think the Z4 will be faster in the corners, but may be a bit slower than the V8 on the long straight.
But to get, to hear the V8 in full growl again vs the quite 6 pot

Quiet 6-pot?? that's like their main purpose... noise  The power and stuff comes after noise... lol.!

Either way, track days for the win! It's tricky doing a track day with your daily though :thumbdo:

Think it's safe to assume that at least another set of wheels is a minimum requirement. a set aof runflats for a track day is excessive.

Sounds like an awesome experience....

Did you hold down the DSC button for 5 seconds to totally disable it?

Nah. It was my first track day- rather be safe than sorry! Maybe next time when I'm really confident. Don't want ambition to overtake skill:fencelook:

Also with performance cars with high levels of grip, u have to be carrying lots of cornering speed before they let go. The resultant slide happens quicker and requires a lot more skill to control. So it wud be easier and safer to slide a slower car around.
Maybe I shud track my 320i:roflol:
