Just making sure the finances for the household are covered, and if all goes according to plan, I want to fetch it tonight. Will have a final answer by lunchtime. And once received, I will be doing a full detailed thread about the transformation to a track car

Hey all,
Ok first update, before I even pick up the car, I had the guy make sure of a few things. Nice chap, swore to me that he could not live with himself if anything was wrong when he sold it, and to be very honest with me about the car. He said it was slightly over heating. At this point I was ready to say ok, no thanx and walk away, BUT...
He sent the car off to Bruce's BMW to investigate, and was then sent off to be checked by Precision engineering to pressure test the head. The gentleman just mailed me with the following.
Pressure testing results:
1. No cracks to cylinder Head - PHEW!!
Then the following was done:
2. Reface all valves
3. Replace valve guide oil stem seals
4. Skim head
5. New gasket set
So my question is... After this kind of work being done, should I even bother? or has he just saved me a shed load of cash?

i would be worried about how hot it got...

I am with moranor on this. Going into the red once.. vs.. going to just over halfway 5 times...

if it heats to much the block will be f@ked too... it all depends on what damage has been done and how hot it got minor over heating will be no problem for a track car because most of the bits that were damaged will be replaced anyway but if it got very hot it will just lead to endless problems...

Thanx for the feedback guys,
As for the over heating - It only happened once, and not too high I'm told. The car was then taken straight to the workshop.
Picking it up hopefully monday, then straight to either Mace or APS for a final check to determine if there is anything else wrong.
I dont expect the car to be perfect for the price I'm paying.
I'm sure after stripping the car I will have plenty of interior bits and pieces for sale. Will post pics and update on Monday.
Re. Parts: I found brand new E36 LHS & RHS LCA's(including all the bushings and ball joins) for R2200. - Not a bad price me thinks. :thumbsup:

If you getting it cheap then go for it run it as is for a bit then when you rebuild the engine you will see what needs to be replaced

What I would do seeing as you will only be using the car as track car is to rebuild the engine before taking it to a track as I think it would be better to have the engine open so that you cam make sure everything is at least fine, and you can also use the chance to maybe upgrade the oilpump etc. The reason I am saying this is that you don't to take it to track now and something goes badly wrong (oil/ coolant) and you damage the engine to the point where you might need to replace the block or something like that. Better to be sure that the engine is at least in a condition to go out on a track, but this is just my opinion.
Also don't forget about upgrading the brakes (pads/fluid) to race spec parts, don't want to go writing off the car chassis'wise.
